Domain Parking Service for sale

I have a parking service that I have run successfullly for the last 6 years, but I would like to get out of the domain parking business.

http://www.rentyourdot.com

The members area features domain tracking, daily traffic statistics, keyword usage statistics, IP tracking, multiple accounts, daily email reports and hands-free customer signup. At it's peak it was doing about 100,000 visitors a day across 48,000 domains, 160+ servers and 100+ customers.

In 2005 when I launched the site it was unique - as rentyourdot was the only service that drew new SEO traffic to parked domains, rather than just rely on existing type-in traffic.

This would be perfect for someone with their own portfolio of domains, or someone that has fresh ideas and wants to capitalize on their SEO knowledge. The website is set up to be customer based - not just for your own domains. This means that other people with portfolios of domains can sign up and your share revenue and traffic with you.

I would like to sell this service since I don't have a large portfolio of domains of my own, and I no longer want to hunt new customers to feed the website. I am pretty much out of SEO ideas for this site and it's time to let someone else with fresh enthusiasm take over.

Figure out what you think it's worth, divide by 10, and I'll take it. I will even consider a payment plan if that's better for you.

Flippa.com would be a good place to list this.

Yeah I will totally put the site on flippa.com. Any suggestions on what I need to have in my ad to make it attractive to the Flippa community?

You need as much info as possible, Google Analytics is almost mandatory, a revenue breakdown and also credibility for yourself as a seller.

Connect your facebook account, your linkedin account and do their phone verification and add a photo of yourself. Each member receives a "trust number" which is good to add credibility to your sale, since this will be the first site you'll be selling there. A photo does not give you any extra points but still goes a long way to incurr realiablility. Also set a decent enough time for the sale, do not set a short 3 day sale, that's not very credible. And be around to answer questions on the site at least one per day, users can send them in and they show up at the bottom of your sale page.

Surf around and check a few other sites for sale to get an idea of what's common to provide and how to sell there.

Good idea - I connected my FB and Linked in accounts to increase my Trust value.

Good luck mate!!!

Do you think that setting a "Buy it now" price is a good thing or a bad thing?

You don't want to set a low buy it now price, because nobody will bid higher than that (they would just buy it now)

If you set it high does it attract high-bidding people (a product is worth what people think it's worth)? Or does it just scare them away?

What do you think I should put as a buy it now price?

AliGbone 06-27-2011 10:06 AM

I'm gunna hit you up on this, looks like a nice deal if the price is right

I think this would totally rock with adult keywords and content. I stayed away from those keywords because I was using Adsense, but that also means I target 30% less keywords. This is assuming that the statistics are correct when they say 30% of searches are adult..

Roughly how many domains are currently actively parked? What percentage of those are yours? Is the $300 a month total rev for all parked domains or site profit? I have a number of other questions if you would prefer me post them on flippa so you can answer there I will.

camperjohn64 06-27-2011 10:52 AM

Just checking the traffic, yesterday I had only 102 websites reporting in. The report for this month shows 1300 websites reporting in. I think I only about 5 of the domains are mine.

I have a ping tool that goes out to all the sites and finds out who is still active - I could run that tonight.

I think I need to make it clear on Flippa that since most of the customers have moved on, that they are mostly buying the program, not the current traffic. I haven't gone out and generated new business in more than a year.

camperjohn64 06-27-2011 10:56 AM

Acutally, I think I am just going to give out the admin email and password so people can see the traffic. I don't think there is any harm anyone can do once inside the members area for the account.

I have the administrator ray gun.

Oh oh, it wouldn't be the admin password to the server, it would just allow users to get into the members.rentyourdot.com area.

Ok so all data is served up to the sites hosted elsewhere, I see. Mostly importantly for me is the rev total earnings of all or sites earnings?

$6,500 - best month
$2,000 - average month
$300 - current income

Is the $300 current monthly income? Is that your earnings after expenses or all domains in total and then payout member earnings on that?

The $300 as current income is because one of my biggest customers has decided to leave and I am out of motivation to find new customers. It was $1600 a month only a few months ago.

I used to go to the Las Vegas "Traffic" conference each year and find new customers, but I really don't want to anymore.

There are no expenses except for hosting. You do not pay your clients - they recieve payment through their ads:

50% of the impressions are yours.
50% of the impressions belong to the clients.
100% of the ad revenue from your ads impressions is yours.

There are also leaderboard and skyscraper ads, but those never made enough money to make it worth it.

We should continue this converstation on flippa if you don't mind.

Oh crap, the emails are not activated on the new server. Can you send me emails to [email protected]?

I will fix that on the site tonight.

[edit] I just removed the email at the bottom of the page for now.
