Leave it to Conan to say what we're all thinking. I'm looking at getting a new iMac, but I don't know if Final Cut X is going to be on my to buy list.

Use use Final Cut Pro and love it. Have not upgraded to X yet but probably will soon.

Yes. All of those have been removed, making this new upgrade pretty much worthless to anyone needing PRO software.

There is a possibility for this stuff to make it's way back by way of addons of some sort.

Darkhorse 06-24-2011 08:05 AM

that was a lol :)

and you know that you'll have to buy a $300 plug in to import your old FC projects right?

I'm curious how easy it will be to remove X and reinstall FCP. And how long before future Macs wont even allow legacy FCP installs.

as soon as a you guys get a new os. my personal opinion all jokes aside is that mac fucks you guys raw every which way they can bend you and you guys love it. seriously Sinclair... if you are NOT a mac user and are just watching from the outside it's very peculiar. I don't mind, it's your choice, just very strange to observe. it as if I bought a new car and could only use 1 certain gas station that is owned by the car company and when the company releases a new model that gas is discontinued and I must buy another new car ... strangest thing....

I loaded in yesterday to give it a whirl. It does some cool things, but its a kids toy compared to FCP7. I use Imovie to edit clips of my kids and FCP7 when i edit work. The new FCPX, seems to be a robust Imovie, nothing more, nothing less.

If you get it, do what I did, load it in, but absolutely do not remove FCP7.

I will give it a chance but Im not expecting it to be as robust as FCP7. I will be looking into Premiere for Mac next week. I think thats where all of the FCP people will be moving to.

Pretty sad and pretty lame.

I guess that's one way of looking at it. I always looked at it as a hardware/software interface that just worked. For me it worked well. It was very intuitive, well thought out and allowed to me to just dig in to my work.

I would just caution some to not see Apple as the collection of Hipster Fanboys that have deified the company. Apple at one time was the ONLY choice for professionals (i refer to the birth of desktop publishing). When I was 16 and knocking out a monthly newsletter for my martial arts school, and subsequently selling my services to other schools. Mac and Quark Express was the logical choice. Ever since then, for me, pro software on a Mac was my preferred choice.

I agree with you that Apple has shit on its users, namely its pro users. They will pay a heavy price for this. It was those pro users that kept them from death when consumers were flocking to Windows.

Kim Jong Jobs and the rest of the "DPRA" over there need to get with it. Isolationism isnt the answer.

very good points... I always thought if it were not for MS, and totally up to jobs. there would be no internet and no digital explosion,, just a few thousand snobby assholes running macs, being total elitist

yep. this thread & a couple other reasons is why i won't buy apple anymore.

had an old imac with FCP 4. When apple upgraded from panther to tiger, i could not use FCP 4 with tiger. so i was stuck with panther, or pay $1000 for the brand new FCP studio.

then i got the iphone in 2007, when they dropped the price from 600 to 400 2 months after releasing it. some of my apps stopped working when i upgraded software.

apple is like goldman. We only want wealthy customers.
