So I watched Piranha last night, and ... it's GREAT !

Fans of gore and teen sex hack n slash flicks should check it out. It's got the best gore I've seen in years, decent acting, surprising cameos (Richard Dreyfus, Eli Roth, etc), decent effects, doesn't take itself too seriously, lots of nudity, and is a pretty fun film to watch. My girlfriend was screaming, and I was laughing. A sure sign of a good horror flick.

And, Jerry O'Connell's portrayal of Joe Francis is hilarious.

From IMDB at : http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0464154/trivia

Quote:

"Girls Gone Wild" mogul Joe Francis wrote a letter to producers saying he was angry at the film because of Jerry O'Connell's character who owns a site called "Wild Wild Girls" which is a spoof of the adult video line and that he might take legal action if "any defamatory or disparaging statements, or depictions, in the media or in the film itself, or other statements that portray Mr. Francis in a false light, will be met with swift litigation.". After seeing the movie Francis went on saying "I appreciate a good parody as much as the next guy, but to associate me with drugs and the filming of underage girls crosses a definite line," Francis said. "Jerry O'Connell has repeatedly and emphatically stated on the public record that he is 'playing Joe Francis,' not a fictional character based on me. Mr. O'Connell has done this despite having been warned by his own lawyers not to admit this." In response O'Connell said "I get to play Joe Francis! Oh, wait. For legal reasons I'm supposed to say, 'I play someone loosely based on Joe Francis.'"

Check it out!

I watched awhile back on Blu ray and liked it as well.

It was funny, easy to watch and the chewed up teen gore was awesome.

Kelly Brook was fun to look at too :winkwink:

This movie seems like a bit of a come-down for Elizabeth Shue, whom I've always liked.

It's billed as a horror-comedy, not my favorite genre by a longshot but I'll give it a watch just the same. Nudity you say? I hope that doesn't include Dreyfuss or O'connell. If it does I'll be chucking my popcorn.

I'm usually not watching that kind of movies :pimp

iSpyCams 06-26-2011 11:07 AM

It was great as long as you in no way attempt to take it as a serious movie.

Um, yes...

There's one part that I loved. I won't give it away but there's this weird interlude somewhere around the middle of the movie to classical music that is ... amazing. It's sexy, gratuitous, but kind of funny, beautiful to men everywhere, and tongue-in-cheek all at the same time. You'll know it when you see it.

One of the best B-movies in years.

Elizabeth Shue hasn't actually been working much (acting-wise) recently, so I considered her appearance in this film a huge treat. I how love her...

I really enjoyed the movie, even though I started feeling queasy about the 3/4 mark. I guess I don't deal with blood and gore as well as I used to.

Considering it was a rather pointless re-make of a rather pointless movie, it had a pretty good cast of actors - and I had blast watching it.

Does Ms Shue show us any skin?

This movie will get added into the VOD free section in my Shaw Cable this week, so I'll be watching it soon. Never been a fan of Jerry O'connell, always considered him as kind of a dumbell only worthy of lower-end stuff, so hearing that he plays Joe Francis in this film sounds kind of fitting. :D

I like The Shue as well, but she hasn't done much in a long time. It was nice to see her acting again tho her character in this movie is played too straight. It would have been cool to see her have some fun, but oh well, still a great flick.

I found it entertaining. Some parts dragged but overall, it was fun to watch. Great gore.

No, she plays a cop and I don't think she shows off anything.

Can't remember her being in anything for years except for a small bit part she had on Curb Your Enthusiasm in its last season. Playing the wife of John Schneider from Dukes of Hazzard, who hasn't had much in the acting arena lately either.

Worst movie of the decade

The non-porn chick in the underwater lesbian scene needs to do porn.

candyflip 06-26-2011 05:28 PM

I loved this flick, but I'm a huge Troma fan so I expected this to be right up my alley.

Comedy + Gore = Fun Times

AnimeFevers 06-26-2011 05:32 PM

Closest thing to 3D porn :)

John-ACWM 06-27-2011 06:49 AM

I was never going to watch it, maybe I'll give it a try.

i dont like such movies, too much fake stuff

A quick heads up:

The director of Piranha 3D is Alexandre Aja, who also made the remake of "The Hills Have Eyes" in 2006. "The Hills" is also really gory but in a different way. To me it was similar to Hostel which bordered on seriously disturbing torture-porn to me. I liked The Hills but it took some getting used to.

Piranha 3D is different. The gore is WAY over the top and seriously cringe inducing in many scenes, but is in no way torture-porn. It's crazy horror movie fun.

Eli Roth has a cameo. When you see him, you just know he's about to meet his demise in a really bloody way.

ladida 06-27-2011 09:09 AM

No, the gore is so horrible it looks like a trashy machete movie, except machete was marketed as trashy and didn't try to go for 3D :)

He also made the really good and criminally underseen "High Tension" (or Haute Tension for you frenchies ;-))

2 great scenes

#1 the scene where the wire for the floating platform snaps and slices the woman in half.

#2 dude getting his face run into by the boat shortly after

shit i almost forgot

#3 piranha barfing up the penis into your face is quite entertaining on a big screen
