Vjo 07-02-2011 09:05 PM

Man this is the only place I get any love. :)

MP my MAN!!! :) Good to see you now I am ready to ROCK and ROLL :thumbsup

You have SOLID tastes. Very SOLID. :)

Everyday I get further out of touch. To see an old school lineup like that. FINALLY!

Let me merge tastes and we'll rock and roll. Get those friggen edits going and relax with some tunes dude. Spark it up man.

I do it for about 16 guys/girls but oh well. :)

I have to play my music.

Like Bob Segar if I have to sit by myself and play my songs, I will. :)

I think I would be more appreciated on Youtube. :) But I like this system. :)

carve my number on your wall and maybe you'll get a call from me

no laughing here.. I love fucking Tull

CSNY for sure. Coming up. The Who.. now we are talking rock and roll. Prob the greatest, guttiest (is that a word :) ) r & r of them all

The Stones are among the best for sure. No better guitar than Richards. YES it helps to be drugged up. lol

AC/DC - AUSSIE! :thumbsup and a heavyweight at the party. :) Indeed. That is real rock and roll. HOW did it die.

I guess it dies with our gens.

Anyhow I love all your chioces. True classic R & R. Good to see the 10 years after crowd (from me) STILL with good solid tastes :thumbsup

The Porn Nerd 07-02-2011 09:10 PM

Hey-OOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Me, you and a Red Dog named Boo :) Sounds good will have to check it out.

Ya know it all goes back to 1973-74-75 and my bud Bob J... we used to burn one as young teen whipper snappers and listen to his JBL speakers. :) In those days you idolized Hendrix, The Allman Brothers, Humble Pie, Deep Purple.. More on this coming up. :)

Just had some homemade BBQ.. I make the best. :) Lotza pork :) hehe

I am a fantastic cook (ladies :) ) but that is another thread.

booting..

The Porn Nerd 07-02-2011 10:12 PM

There's a great new book out by David Browne, centering on the year 1970, and focusing on The Beatles, CSNY, James Taylor and Simon & Garfunkel. GREAT shit.

Also: a must READ - WELL, hear, A MUST hear - is the Keith Richards bio read by Johnny Depp. Great shit there. Amazing Richards is still alive, just amazing. Maybe Depp, too, when u think about it....

hEY-ooooo!

Vjo 07-02-2011 10:22 PM

Im BACK. Damn windows wouldnt let me boot. Says my software changed. I think I need to update. Anyhow after 3 tries Im BACK. Thank god. :)

I changed an mcu file to txt but for some reason I cant copy it. Want to show my CSNY playlist.

I c a p to a text file but cant copy it. Unbelievable. Winblows cant handle what I put it thru the last 4 hours. :)

My puter is schiztzier than a ride home with David Crosby through the haze. lol

yeah 1970 may be the greatest year in music. I like 69-73 the best i would say. 67-8 are also very good. Then a few years before or after are almost as good. 67-80 is prob classic. Some might stop at 1975. Things changed in 1980 of course altho I still love the 80s. It really chgd in 1990.

OK while your still awake let me tell ya my Bobby J story :) And get some tunes cooking :)

PS James Taylor I am also of course into but man that guy is mellow and melancholly but a hell of a writer.

Shouts to Garce. :thumbsup We had a discussion one night. Garce likes Sweet Baby James stuff a lot.

Vjo 07-02-2011 10:38 PM

I just realized I put CLASSIC in the title but told everyone to post anything. :) Forget the CLASSIC in the title, post anything. :)

Hey, it's called BC bud for a reason. lol

I wish. I wish. :)

Vjo 07-02-2011 10:51 PM

Tough to get views in music threads. :) Espec a CLASSIC music thread. :)

Ok just for me, you, CH, Spunky, he's always around, 4 black guys, there always up late, :) fris, he's always working :) 9 other guys, 4 babes :) and 5 lurkers who never post..

This is my Bobby J story. And the music from the days of Bobby J.

Ya know Mott The Hoople had an album that never was all that good but I loved the title: Born Late 58

My gen grew up missing woodstock (like yours did) and the love ins of 67 in San Fran. We were here but too young. We were the TRUE 10 years after generation. Made famous by the group Ten Years After of course.

We grew up in the 70's and we idolized the gen 10 years older than us:

Paul McCartney, (15 years older)
Young
Crosby,
Jagger, (15 years older)
and on and on and on

The greatest generation musically of all time. We idolized them. We liked the drug culture at the time. We wanted to be drugs. :)

this is the group and song we used to "test the bass" on the JBLs

turn it up :) true

another good HP song, lots of play time in 1973 :)

While the night was young and we were coming off on acid, (Orange Sunshine and others and then later Blotter - had a bad trip :) was the last time ) THC, (we believed we actually had REAL thc in pill form a couple times - all you did was LAUGH for 3 hours seriously) white cross (speed) and mexican pot for $15 an O :)

We would finish with Uriah Heep - Sunrise at about 6 am feeling very mellow. :)

continued and back to Bobby J... :)

Vjo 07-02-2011 11:19 PM

So anyhow Bobby J was my best friend. Same age. Both of us had 12"+ straight long hair parted in the middle already at age 15.

There was easy sex everywhere. We both were good looking. It was the early-mid 70s. Sex, drugs and rock and roll.

Cruising in classic cars all day everyday.

So our other past time was listening to tunes on vinyl. I also had a decent system with a $125 stylus for my Pioneer turntable. But my bud Bob had JBL speakers. :)

So he would bring his speakers over and combine with my turntable.

We would then burn some reefer if we hadnt already. We smoked all day everyday. And play new albums.

Uriah Heep
Led Zep
Stones
Moodies
Floyd
Humble Pie
Deep Purple
on and on

The stuff up to about 1968 was then called bubble gum and you were a fag if you played it. lol I liked it and still do but you could not admit you liked it.

and the anthem of a generation

Vjo 07-02-2011 11:45 PM

So this was what we did. How we were raised. This is why we cant let go and will never let go.

Classic rock and pop music, it was a way of life that seemed like it would never die and would go on forever. In 1990 we knew it was over. Things changed as I suppose they must.

Speaking of Tull. I wore it out. :)

lets do some tull

thank you if you made it this far, god bless you and thank you for your indulgence :)

i will go back to my own world.. i tried to share.. hope you got something out of it.. :)

We tried MP. No interest anymore BROtha. :) I guess Classic rock (or any music) is dead around GFY.

Just haters and Nalem threads. :) I smile but it is pretty sad really.

Those of you in your early 40s.. beware.. as life will soon tear away what you hold dear. It is meant to be. :)

Epilog

Vjo!!!!! Crashed man, too much (NJ) kind bud + Exile On Main St. = ZONKED. LOL

AWESOME TUNES MAN!! I am ashamed to say I do not know much about Uriah Heep but will do some self-educatin' ASAP brutha!!! Sounds awesome. :)

Joe Walsh - heh, man O man. I was a journalist in the music biz for about fifteen years and one of my first interviews ever was with Joe Walsh way-y-y back in '87. Haha! Man, I was a fucking teenager, HS dropout, in LOVE with sex, drugs and rock and roll (tho I had hardly any of any of that at that age/stage).

Anyway, one hour interview at some midtown hotel. At the end I notice his 'Hard Rock Cafe' jacket. I wanted one of those! So I say, 'Hey Joe, nice jacket."

He smiles, picks it up, says, 'Yeah, they customized it for me", then threw me the jacket!!!! I catch it, shocked, turn it over, it says 'Joe Walsh' on the back, above the Hard Rock Logo. Sweet!!!! I go to throw it back and he shakes his head. "Keep it, you were cool."

Thanks Joe! I walk out, wearing my new jacket (yes it fit, amazingly), get in the elevater and there's a young Jay Leno!

I get in, push the button, I recognized him from The Tonight Show (as a guest, of course) but didn't say anything. Maybe it was his blue shirt with electric pink (skinny) tie that kept me silent. Eww.

"Nice jacket hee hee," says Jay.

"Yeah, thanks," I say.

"But you're not Joe Walsh hee hee," he says.

"Just interviewed him for Rolling Stone. Cool guy."

"Oh really? Hee hee that's nice yeah yeah hee hee...."

FUCK YOU JAY LENO!!

Ahhhh memories. Should tel you my CSN (no 'Y', sadly) interview at The Plaze Hotel in NYC in '91, in honor of the box set. Greatest interview ever. AHHH the memories!

Where have all the good times gone, Van Halen? Well, The Kinks?

Hey-OOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!

No prob. I appreciate your posts. :)

Awesome story :thumbsup :thumbsup :thumbsup

(wait I never give 3 thumbs up) I do this time. First time EVER someone got 3 from me. :)

Man unbelievable. Joe threw you his jacket. It really is a small world. You really have brushed up against some big stars in your day. :thumbsup You are the closest thing to a star we have at GFY. :)

The thing is most guys our age are old fuddie duddies. I think that is why the music died (is dieing).

The only thing I give a rats ass about on GFY anymore is posting vids. Otoh, nobody here gives a rats ass about vids, lol except my (mostly) old school peeps.

So for my old school peeps. The music WILL carry on. The FUN (to us) WILL carry on.

Why? Cause it is FUN. For US it is fun. :)

I only care about the music. I have read no other threads in days. This is where I will be. In this thread. With my people. :)

Uriah Heep.. give The Wizard, and July Morning a shot. They are the epitome of UH.

I realized all my groups I listed were from the UK including UH. Crazy. YET I cant get ONE person from the UK to post any feedback. Oh well. :)

Alice is another one who was just worn out in the early 70s. Love Alice!

The first few of my local playlist (designed to sound great and get you OFF :) )

love all these

[Hello Hurray]

I will post until I have 1000 views. It may take WEEKS! lol

Thanks for the love Harvey :thumbsup :thumbsup :thumbsup

3 for U 2. :)

You are now an honorary member of the old school club. Where the cool guys hang. :) Any requests go to the head of the list. :)

U2?

Ahh the groups go on forever. I have yet to spark up today. Within minutes... Can you say wake and bake?

I will have all of GFY "hopping and bopping" lol before it is over.

good fucking song

yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Sex, DRUGS (most important ) and ROCK and ROLL !!!

We are just warming up. :thumbsup

Happy Birthday AMERICA!!!

Vjo 07-03-2011 05:58 PM

I take it back.. The young guys are the fuddie duddies LOL haha

LOLOLOLOLOLOL :)

Vjo 07-03-2011 06:21 PM

I just realized.. since noone is reading this thread we can have some real fun here. :)

We can say whatever we want. :) oh oh :) YEAH!

This is actually GREAT! Now I can tell u all some REALLY good stories. :)

MP coming up.. emphasis on your 3(4) remaining groups.

ADG is going to post his top 5 Beatles songs (sometime) might be 3 am tho :) PLEEEEEEEASE AGD :) I wantn to know and you have great taste but if you dont I will cover them gladly. :)

and I will focus on:

The Who
AC DC (any Aussies in the hoooooooouse) YOU gonna let ME tell the world about AC DC? An American? Who you could easily drink under the table and (more than likely) kick my ass :) Cmon man represent! Must be ONE old schooler "from the land down under"

"where women grow and men plunder"

is it "grow" :)

Dont make an American boy carry your weight like we did in 45 :) j/k sort of :)

and MP's last choice was (first two were CSNY and Jethro Tull who we touched on) ... the one and only

Rolling Stones :) Gladly delve into them :)

Vjo 07-03-2011 08:34 PM

i'm lazy, you know it
i'm ready for the second show

amazing, things growing
just waitin for the juice to flow

MY top 5 fav groups of ALL TIME that get me OFF! Never told ya yet. :)

1 Alice Cooper (Blue Turk then Luney Tune - No More Mr Nice Guy - Be My Lover)
2 Uriah Heep (The Wizard then July Morning - Sunrise - Easy Livin)
3
4
5

ALICE is #1. I like the music a lot and I like the dude a lot too. One of the coolest guys ever.

URIAH HEEP #2 is both extreamly delicate while at the same time being very hard. Similiar to Led Zep and Floyd. Strangely only those three bands are true acid rock. The music completely changes on acid.

Now I dont promote using acid. Seriously. I was 15-16 (which is about the only age you can handle it) But it has always amazed me why some music becomes electric and most doesnt. Very weird deal. Opinions? Acid heads? :) Oh yeah, that's right, all the acid heads are waaaaaay too long burned out to be able to post. :)

i slipped into my jeans
lookin hard and feelin' mean

just a little insane
a couple of shots
i can't feel no pain

my dog bit me on the leg today
my cat clawed my eye
mom's been thrown out of the social circles
and dad has to hide

i went to church incognito
when everybody rose
the reverend smithy
he recognized me
and punched me in the nose

she struts into the room
well i don't know her
but with a magnifying glance
i just sort of looked her over

we have a drink or two
well, maybe three
and then suddenly
she starts telling me her life story

she says baby, if you wanna be my lover
you better take me home
cause it's a long long way to paradise
and i'm still on my own

told her that i came from detroit city
and i played guitar in a long-haired rock and roll band
she asked me why the singer's name was alice
i said listen, baby you really wouldn't understand

baby, if you wanna be my lover
you better take me home
cause it's a long long way to paradise
and i'm still on my own

So by that, Blue Turk is the greatest song of all time. :)

My Choices for 3,4,5 coming up. Stay tuned. :)

Views are starting to take off. :)

Party!!!!!!!!!!!!

i shiver but i love this game

#3 BADFINGER

When this music was out in 70-71-72 I was so young but I would hear these songs and love em. Took me till years later to understand who they were.

Baby Blue - Day After Day - No Matter What - Come And Get It

Baby Blue is what earns this group such high marks. Another true Classic Rock song with a great Melody and Energy.

Pete Ham the lead singer and a guitarist hung himself in 1974 from a tree in his own front yard. Such a shame as he had some real talent.

This is live but is (almost) right on the button

a truley awsum song - words fail me

also live but very close to right on - shows the tightness of the group

long live (in our minds) Pete Ham - one of Classic Rock's BEST

live also with a diff lead singer than Ham

Badfinger has a very carefree, early 70s, counter culture sound that sets them apart as one of the best of the era and of all time.

The Porn Nerd 07-03-2011 09:57 PM

Heh - told that same exact Joe Walsh/Jay Leno story to a 25 year old girl tonight - she said "Joe who?"

Sigh.

Keep 'em comin' Vjo so we can keep on cummin' on....
Badfinger was awesome.

KIDS TODAY: yeesh, listen to this shit, amazing.

Thanks man. :) Badfinger truley deserved some recognition. Really glad others dig it. I am still working on 4 & 5. And also on The Stones, Who and ACDC (who are late 70's BUT I still call them classic :) I go to 1980. Others stop at 75 :)

But they were your choice so they are in :thumbsup

Gonna do 4 song set lists to each. Seems to be a good format :)

I like it :)

The Who are next! Who? :)

Any songs you want to hear from the Who?

While I go do dishes. lol Such an UNglamorous job I have here. :) Does Alice do his own dishes? Damn! :) Ya got till I get back. :) Otherwise I will choose 4.

PS Funny and sad. Joe who? Dayam

#3 THE WHO (One of MP's Top 5)

The Who. Def have a few tunes that are absolutly top notch and deserve to be included in the Best of Classic Rock. Some were played to death in the late 70's but time allows me a fresh perspective. :)

Since I alread posted "Wont Get Fooled Again" (my fav and an absolute TOP tune of all time - perhaps as electrifying as anything)

Truely electrifying bands, like we are hearing tonight, had the ability to just put you in awe live. You would walk out in a daze and ten miles high. :)

I remeber my first concerts Grand Funk, Uriah Heep, Santana, Blue Oyster Cult, Jethro Tull, Rod Stewart (1980's that dont count :) ) and others.

You would get high as hell smoking a ton. The arena would literally, LITERALLY be a haze of pot smoke. A thick haze.

You did not need to bring smoke. The FAT joints were passing all over through the crowd. This was mostly at The Saint Paul Civic Center but also the Mpls Auditorium.

When the lead band finally took the stage (usually you had at least 2 warm up bands) Santana was actually a warm up band. The THIRD from the top band that night. :)

But alas I cant remember 3/4 of the concerts (or bands) I been to. :) Seriously. Let me think on it. hehe :)

this song is almost in the league of Led Zep Stairway To Heavon (hint at one of the bands POSSIBLY in my last 2 :) )

this is just really stony (and stony gets HIGH marks :) ) ala Eight Miles High

the beginning oif this and really all of it is really GREAT stoned :stoned

freedom - that was a big theme in the 70s - are we finally free?

great song, shows off lots of Pete Townsend and Roger Daltry

Spunky 07-03-2011 11:05 PM

I like the cut of your jib, some great classics.I smoke some reefer to Black Sabbath

Vjo 07-03-2011 11:10 PM

And I gotta say Pete Townsend WAS a genius with a guitar! One of the tightest groups of all time.

Love Townsend Guitar.

Makes this whole fucking thing worth it just to hear Behind Blue Eyes.

YOU have one assignment class. :) get high (optional) and listen to Behind Blue Eyes all the way through.

Notice Townsend puts parts of Pinball Wizard and Wont Get Fooled Agian into the song near the end. You cant miss it. That is Brilliant and is WHY The Who IS one of the TOP 10 Greatest Classic Rock Bands Ever.

We agree MP. :)

They have too much energy to be denied.

#2 AC/DC (One of MP's Top 5)

Now with AC/DC we are getting into the later 70s. They absolutely dominated the second half of the 70s "hard" rock scene. In the early 80's if you were a headbanger, you banged it to AC/DC.

http://www.sqvirtual.com/img/acdc3.jpg

Every dirtball from Key West to Seattle had a mullet and a black AC/DC TShirt. :)

Where are all these guys today. :) The Tshirts were long burned I suspect. But the music lives on.

There is major history I could never tell in a post but of course they had 3 lead singers one who died (Bon Scott who replaced Dave Evans as the lead singer in 74) and then Brian Johnson was the trademark gravel voiced lead singer after Scott.

http://www.sqvirtual.com/img/acdc2.jpg

my choice for top song notice the beginning of this immediately feels more 80s with way better fidelity and bass

good tune and really gets cooking, my second fav

wonder if they ever hurt their voices, makes Randy Savage sound high pitched :)

played 10 zillion times thus why it is at 4, good song tho
