What domain name sounds better?

www.webhostingvista.com or www.coastwebhosting.com ?

I'm starting a new hosting company and I'm considering these.

I like it but I really want the full keywords in the name or something brandable that's not a word like twitter, google, skype, or yahoo.

interesting Nike is a name for a Greek god of victory and Nika is a variant.

What do you think about hostnike.com or hostnika.com ?

or nikewebhosting.com

sounds crazy but it is legal.

Domain Diva 07-03-2011 03:24 PM

I was going to set up a hosting biz but changed my mind and have GreatWebsiteHosting (.com) nice keywords...hit me up if interested.

bloggerz 07-03-2011 03:49 PM

On 2nd thought probably not a good idea, I was just thinking about the easy to remember domain and starting word links you would get. lol maybe even free press for how funny it would be.

Does the word coast give the impression that your global operator ...and my worry with vista is that people would associate with microsoft vista (negative in that it was unreliable etc) just my personal 2 cents!

I would find something that gives a postive in the domain and lets people know what it is without explaining ....ie , ReliableHosting .....FastHosting....RapidHosting or a little cheaper would be 3 words like FastWebsiteHosting etc.....

Freaky_Akula 07-06-2011 03:25 PM

Good point west does sound like a specific area and for hosting why not be global.

I think that enough to veto it.

If I do three words it will be web hosting for two of them for sure.

But two words or a brandable made up word is fine for two.

I plan on blogging every part of this venture with video, so if you don't mind these posts will be publicized.

chipmunk 07-07-2011 05:52 PM

To be honest, I do not like either. They are non-memorable names.

Why don't you look at buying a different name with just host in the domain? I am confident there are better names out there that will meet and or exceed your needs.

Why does GoDaddy do so well? They don't offer any special services...

Do you want cookie cutter hosting... just like every other one out there or do you want to stand for something different... that's what you need to decide.

You seem to like fitting in with the crowd with this one, which isn't wrong, and I think both are perfectly fine, neither stands out as a better option.

I would suggest think of something crazy cool... stand out... you can still benefit from keywords in the domain. Try seomaxwebhosting.com and throw in some free seo tool or something, that will stand out to anyone interested in seo to see what you are doing over there. or try something like cashbackwebhosting.com, where each month pick a user to get $50 or something...

If you go with a crazy name (which you said you definitely dont want to) of course it will be a royal PAIN to inform people what it is you are doing... plus you may not get any keywords in the domain. BUT in 5 years from now, it will be worth something more than what coastwebhosting.com ever will be. That is the benefit. The brand could have serious value far exceeding what coastwebhosting ever could.

I hope that helps you, I do branding and marketing work for startups and small businesses, so I could go on and on...

brentbacardi 07-11-2011 10:29 AM

I like hostive.com the best!

Awesome information, I will let it resonate for sure.

Do you think www.blimple.com can be brandable?

A blimp and simple combined.

brentbacardi 07-13-2011 03:32 PM

Sure pretty much anything can be brandable... just something easier than others. Key things to think about when picking a weird name like that:

1. Doesn't mean anything weird in a foreign language in which you conduct or someday may conduct business.

2. There is a reason/story behind it... for example... you probably heard of Yelp! its easy to remember but you don't know what it means... it actually comes from YEllow Pages! Now I will never forget that Yelp is like yellow pages... (I spoke with someone who worked there a long while back before everyone knew what they were).

If you are going to use blimple be careful because the first word that came to mind for me was pimple and I dont think its an acne cream you are trying to make. But of course you could spend time "teaching" people what blimple is and someday it could be synonymous with awesome webhosting... who knows! The reason I liked Hostive is because host is a keyword, quick glance or readover i think of the words host and live which are good words for web hosting... etc...

Inter-Sex 07-14-2011 02:48 PM

coasthost.com ?

mixing 07-15-2011 01:48 AM

I wouldn't go with either to be honest.

I am still on the fence I realize people think Pimple or even butt pimple but look at Google it's Goo (gross) with a gle (gurgle) after it.

Also I think people remember bad things like 4-5 times over good things, so maybe just maybe a domain ossociated with something really bad like a blimp size pimple will resonate. Also the fact that no one said it sounds like blimp that is simple confirms that people remember and think about bad things naturally. It's been proven before.

Googol also means a 1 with 100 zeros after it... or something like that. Which fits with what Google does... provides that many search results for you in the blink of an eye.

Neither mean much to me unless your servers are running Windows Vista.
I'd rather see cheapasshosting.net, bloghosting.com, serverexpert.net or something with some meaning.

Of, course meaning requires honesty. Don't call yourself serverexpert.net if you're not expert. I'd buy from serverexpert.net when I wanted someone with fifteen years of sysadmin experience like myself.

I agree, but people do not care about honesty. You are a rare breed :thumbsup

Myself I never do business with crooked or lying companies, that is why I do not use BofA and never will. But millions of people will, just like people use dreamhost or hostgator when they lie about unlimited services.

This is not about ethics it's about marketing.

I know my business would be honest but I still need to know what I'm against and what would actually work best even if I tweak it to fit my personal goals.

In my first business class with a retired Harvard business professor the first thing he said was there is no ethics in Business just what you can get away with factoring all the variables.

I am trying to find all the variables.

Hostive.com is best so far... Better and brandable than blimple.com.. personal view.. :)

JesseJo 07-20-2011 11:49 AM

I like hostive.com. It's short and easy to remember.

Fornicating 07-22-2011 04:32 PM

affordablecheapwebhosting.com gives you good keywords, tells everyone what it is, and you would start off with 9,000 people per month looking for that phrase as a broad search.
Starting with the name is wrong, you should be starting off by seeing what traffic the various names would be able to give you, IMO.

getdirtymedia 07-22-2011 10:09 PM

I thought coast was good, naming a company is a bitch .. good luck on it.

tarrob 08-16-2011 07:19 AM

webhosting vista is the better of the two because it clearing says you are web hosting, but I agree, you could probably find something better than either

My Pimp 08-17-2011 12:44 AM

The first one. For international webmasters.

taken300 08-18-2011 11:21 AM

I will say "www.webhostingvista.com"

nostraludamus 08-18-2011 12:41 PM

i like coastwebhosting.com because it basically rhymes and that makes it easy to remember.
The vista one just makes me think microsft.

Brentbacardi makes some good points though. If you come up with something blended i would keep the syllable count down, and try to repeat sounds in the name. :2 cents:

BangThemes 08-18-2011 05:50 PM

Vista is trash as well as microsoft... stay away from that keyword.
