Is Moniker down / dead?

Domain names that use their DNS won't resolve.

And I can't login at moniker.com 'cuz that won't resolve either.

I understand that spreading a website across multiple data centres can be a difficult thing to do, but what about this?

NS1.MONIKERDNS.NET 208.73.210.41
NS2.MONIKERDNS.NET 208.73.211.42
NS3.MONIKERDNS.NET 208.73.210.43
NS4.MONIKERDNS.NET 208.73.211.44

It looks like the name servers are all on the same network... any problems with that local net, and bang, not only is your registrar website down, so are many of your customers websites, because they're relying on that small pocket of the internet to work in order to resolve their website address.

Moniker needs to place extra name servers in other data centres so that customers don't lose their DNS every time they have an issue. I don't understand why they haven't...

Bet it's been mentioned a hundred times since they started... it's basic DNS stuff that any engineer with half a degree would know... so why don't they do it? :pimp

2 possible reasons, take your pick ...
(1) stupid and incompetent
(2) cheap
(3) all of the above

Moniker stopped sending referrals on one of my mainstream domains a few weeks ago too.

In general tho, Moniker has done nothing but KICK ASS for me.

if there is an abuse issue, their abuse team is proffesional about it.
If there is a support issue, their support team is professional about it

I have used moniker for about 50k in escrow on domain buys over the last few months, and that too has kicked ass.

I'm sure they will have the problems, whatever they are fixed.

My only nit pick, is sometimes their login system is down, and they dont post a notice saying its down for maintenance or what not. its nothing I cant deal with usually tho.
