Ex-News International chief executive Rebekah Brooks has been arrested by police investigating phone hacking and bribery at the News of the World.

The 43-year-old was arrested by appointment at a London police station and remains in custody.

She was arrested on suspicion of conspiring to intercept communications and on suspicion of corruption allegations.

She quit News International on Friday as pressure mounted over her role.

Mrs Brooks was editor of the paper between 2000 and 2003, during which time the phone belonging to murdered schoolgirl Milly Dowler was tampered with.

She has worked long and hard through the ranks to get where she is, lots of people are being arrested and questioned in this inquiry, it's not necessarily true that all will eventually be prosecuted.

It's been a tough few months for her, she is an honest person and nobody should assume her guilt until this inquiry had uncovered all the facts. Unfortunately at the moment she is a very visible and easy to blame person for the media.

Look at the bigger picture, She was due to appear to give evidence in front of the parliament at the culture media and sport select committee on Tuesday.

Now she has been arrested she will not have to give evidence to the committee.

The evidence they are using to arrest her has been in police hands since 2006 yet the decide to arrest her two days before the committee.

She's already admitted to parliment that her paper pays (bribes) the police for information. That in itself is enough to send her to prison.

when you look at the history of scandals and what brings people down it is usually something really insignificant in the scheme of things, but it usually does in the end.

why that is i dunno. i think people's minds shut off when they contemplate the true nature of crimes perpetrated, they can only rally around something less threatening. it's a weird phenomenon.

He true crime was for the last few decades poisoning political life, promoting war, racism, xenophobia and attacks on Trade Unions and any democratic bodies. Getting the stupid to elect right wing governments.
