Casino Mogul Wynn Slams Obama on Jobs, Economy

Las Vegas heavyweight Steve Wynn, a self-described Democratic businessman, unloaded on the White House this week, blaming President Barack Obama’s political philosophy for the nation’s stagnant job growth and poor business climate.

Wynn, the CEO of Wynn Resorts (WYNN), called the administration the “greatest wet blanket to business and progress and job creation in my lifetime.”

The comments underscore the tense relationship between corporate America and the White House, and come as Washington is paralyzed by the tense negotiations to raise the nation’s debt limit.

“I believe in Las Vegas. I think its best days are ahead of it. But I'm afraid to do anything in the current political environment in the United States,” said Wynn, who was responding to a question during his company's earnings conference call about expanding in Vegas.

Wynn, 69, is worth an estimated $2.3 billion as of this year, up from $1.5 billion previously, according to Forbes. In 2006 he was named as one of the world’s 100 most influential people by Time. Wynn’s casinos include the Wynn Las Vegas, Wynn Macau and Encore.

In particular, Wynn criticized Obama for a “lack of leadership” and Washington for excessive regulation and escalating health-care costs.

“I'm telling you that the business community in this company is frightened to death of the weird political philosophy of the President of the United States,” Wynn said. “And until he's gone, everybody's going to be sitting on their thumbs.”

The blunt comments were surprising considering Wynn has been a frequent supporter of Democrats in the past, including donating to Sen. John Kerry’s run for the White House in 2004 and supporting a number of other key Democrats like Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid.

According to the web site NewsMeat, Wynn has given more than $87,000 to Democrats and $233,730 to Republicans. However, Wynn donated to Sen. John McCain in the 2008 race, giving him $2,300.

“Everybody's afraid of the government, and there's no need to soft peddling it, it's the truth. It is the truth,” said Wynn. “And that's true of Democratic businessman and Republican businessman, and I am a Democratic businessman and I support Harry Reid. I support Democrats and Republicans.”

After hitting a 52-week high earlier, shares of Wynn were down 1.89% to $161.77 Tuesday afternoon, cutting their 2011 rally to 59%".

Yeah true, I just had no idea real players blew money on staff they don't need when they're making record profits with the staff and costs they currently have. I always thought they worked to increase performance, quality, services, etc while reducing costs, often through technology, allowing them to hire less, thus spend less.... but I guess not, history is totally wrong, I'm shocked.

Steve Wynn is certainly not one of the sheep and is beyond sophisticated and well connected enough to know the truth. Wynn knows why Barry Soetoro (Obama's real name) was put into place and he who knows who is behind Obama's meteoric rise to the White House. He understands why the media was behind Barry during the campaign and he knows why they cover for him for all his frauds. It is the same situation for both Bushes and Clinton. I think this diatribe by Steve Wynn is nothing more than theatre. Places like Las Vegas are going to have to transition from the casino business to something else that will be more useful in a Marxist country such as prisons.

Umm.... The rate was at 8.5 when Bush left, and is it 9.6 right now. Under Bush, over 8 years we added a little over 1 million jobs, in 2010 we added more than that. Your numbers are a bit off....

Obama, himself, over the budget/costs handed to him, he has spent roughly 600 billion dollars.

The $30k increase includes the 8 years Bush took to more than double the debt, and the correction on war costs on the books that Obama made is why you see it skyrocket when he came into office... the truth hurts, in this case a few trillion worth of hurts.

(CNSNews.com) ? The real unemployment rate rose to 16.2 percent in June, the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reported on Friday, marking a return to levels not seen since January 2011.

The ?real? unemployment rate is technically a combination of three measures of unemployment: the unemployment rate, the number of people working part-time who want full-time work, and the number of people ?marginally attached? to the workforce.

Those who have left the workforce but would still like to be employed are considered marginally attached.

This figure is considered a more complete measure of unemployment because it captures a broader spectrum of those affected by the weak economy. Merely counting those who apply for unemployment benefits as ?unemployed? does not fully account for everyone who is out of work or underemployed.

This real unemployment rate ? known as the U6 rate ? has been climbing since February 2011 when it was at 15.9 percent. Real unemployment peaked in October of 2009 at 17.4 percent, before falling into the 16 percent range for much of 2010.

It now appears that the real unemployment rate is returning to its 2010 levels, trending upward after staying slightly below 16 percent from February to May.

The total number of people who were truly unemployed in June was 25.3 million -- the 14.1 million who were unemployed, the 2.7 million who were marginally attached to the workforce and the 8.6 million who were underemployed."
