The Americans Are Coming!
In the past 12 months I have noticed a huge influx of Americans in my apartment block and my area of Sydney, Australia. When chatting to them, they all say the same thing. Things are getting bad back at home. Jobs/economy/abandoned neighbourhoods/crime.. many have also mentioned their family and friends are following suit, or they followed friends/family here. How many of you American folk are planning on leaving soon? Is the ship really sinking??
|
I'd assume people would rather live in an abandoned house in Detroit than a former penal colony.
The USA must really be fucked. |
I left 5 years ago. And... I am considering moving to Melbourne when I get bored here.
|
The ship is not sinking. Yes, the economy is bad and jobs are hard to find. However, the crime hasn't risen locally in my area.
|
You can't even produce porn in AU.
|
Crowe, Jackman... I heard they stick to Oz land.
Me likes New Zealand, thanks LOTR! |
ACtually, Crime rates have gone DOWN....
that being said, I'm still outta there. Reason why? Simple, WHen the government stops blowing MY money on poor lazy people, I will return. You know what happens in asia when you are poor lazy? you die of starvation. If you are just poor, then your family might take pity and care for you. In the USA, we give them food stamps and medicare to keep on breeding like fucking rabbits. Lazy and poor men should be banned from breeding, and lazy / poor women should be married off as secondary wives / concubines to men capable of keeping them. Thats how it has effectively worked for all of human history, and thats how it should continue. Did you know that for instance throughout history only 40% of all men have reproduced and 80% of women have. there is a reason for it. I'm tired of paying for lazy fucks breeding and eating my tax dollar. We give them women so they are more placated and cause less crime I'd rather just pay for the police to crack their skulls and keep them in line and have an extra woman, if its all the same. I'm tired of us invading countries and then giving it back to the people we just took it from. If we are gonna be assholes and invade, we should atleast pillage like the romans did. That is why I am leaving. Because currently america is neither a democracy, or a capitalist nation. We are a socialism and we are a police state. Fuck that. If I'm gonna live with corruption I'll move to asia where I expect it as the status quo. atleast I'll be at the top of the pile with all the other dirt bags. |
There has been a progressive trend lately in the number of Americans you see applying for work in Melbourne. Many are unemployable because they have come here on holiday and do not have the necessary visas, or hope of a visa to stay.
Unless they have a skilled background where we have a local shortage of skilled workers, then it's very hard for them to gain any foothold. |

The USA is a net exporter of damned near everything. What does this mean? If things go to shit on a wolrd-wide basis, you'll not want to be in a country which relies on imports for its food, security, hardware and even the basic necessites of life. If things get bad in the USA, imagein what they will be like elsewhere! Yes, the USA has more than one problem but if things go to shit, I'd sure as Hell rather be in the USA than almost anyplace else. Take a look at this image and consider: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Us..._percapita.PNG My. $.02. |
Umm I didn't create this thread to be about USA vs AU. I am very fond of the US, and find most Americans to be great people. Actually I find it nice to have other english speaking people besides British and Kiwis moving into my area.
I was just trying to get a feel for what is going on over there? The people I have talked to seem seriously worried... |
Utopia is always just over the hill, I'm sure they have their very own set of problems. No such thing as a perfect place:2 cents:
|
What's the long term visa situation like in Aussieland?

It's just that if things go to shit, which I think they will, I'd much rather be in the USA as the USA can if it chooses, become essentially self-reliant. |
As usual Marion Lynn, the cross dressing gay twink loving scamming spammer from Kansas proves he knows fuck all.
1. The massive demand for Australia's mineral exports is going to create half a million new jobs in the next 5 years. Employment growth in Australia outstrips any other country on the planet per head of population. 2. Australia may import some things, however it also exports alot too. We export technology, services, primary production and medical advances to the world. We are leaders in IVF, Hearing Implants, Nuclear medicine and Cancer medicines. 3. Australia has the highest standard of living of any other country on the planet. We provide free medicine, low cost education, paid parental leave, paid superannuation, full pensions and benefits to our disadvantaged. It costs nothing to receive excellent medical care in this country, education is free until you meet certain income thresholds and then you pay back a government loan for post secondary education. 4. Australian's have a higher wealth per capita than their counterparts in any other western nation. More Australians own their own homes than any other country in the world per head of population. Our economy is the envy of the rest of the world, sailing through the GFC with barely a sniffle, our economy keeps pounding along while the US, UK and most of Europe falter. When the balloon goes up and the chips are down, Australia will be the place to be while people in countries like the USA will be stuffed. |

Of course the areas with most demand will drive skilled immigration, these will be mining, technology, software development, education service provision and so forth. |

(1) Australia imports 80% of its oil. If the ballon goes up, oil prices will rise astronomically and with them the cost of all oil-based goods and services. This would have a devastating effect on the economy of any nation which relies on oil imports. (2) Australia is facing a huge fresh wataer shortage and although a world leader in sea water desalinization, such plants could presently not keep up if faced with the kind of cirsis mentioned above. Perth's desal plants provide only 20% of the fresh water requirements for that city and it will take years for such plants to provied 100% of the requirements and the situation could well be overtaken by world events long before that goal is reached. Although both water and oil are essentially commodities, both could be the primary weapons in future international conflicts. |

I'm not borderline whack job. I have cash guns canned food and metals in both places. I dont think the US will die over night. but its gonna be a dead man walking for a decade or more. I'm not worried about things going to shit over night. I just see the writing on the wall (and it was written in feces) |
Australia could remove it's dependence on foreign oil products tomorrow if it nationalized it's existing reserves and moved toward ethanol, as it has slowly been doing, but could do so more rapidly.
Australia is no longer in drought and the water situation has improved markedly since whatever you cut and paste from was written Sally Rand. |
Australia sounds like good destination...

I gave up a lot of things (mostly comfort items) when I moved to Thailand, but what I gained outweighs what I lost 10 to 1. It also makes you grow as a person and live outside of your comfort zone, which ultimately builds confidence, continues your life education, and reprograms your brain to be a global thinker, rather than simply an American (or whatever country you're from) who can't see past his own borders. But I can say with absolute certainty that the grass is NEVER greener, it's just different grass. |

You finally lock a place down in Indo? I just had a friend buy a condo there, moved over and couldn't be happier. |

I'm thinking of just buying some beach front and disappearing. I already have a 4 story in jakarta, but I'm not living there. What you said about the grass is true... one thing I will add to that tho... the isolation you feel when you are away from security makes you think better... Once you feel comfortable, you should probably move on. |

They will still be blowing your money as you must continue to file taxes. |

Australia does not need to rely on food imports. Where did you get that from?
We are a big country that can feed ourselves tho bananas are expensive whenever a cyclone ploughs through queensland. |

Maybe I'm wrong but if you are a USA citizen i think you still have to pay taxes even living abroad? |
unfortunately australia has become just another nanny country. more and more laws telling people what they can and can't do behind closed doors. more and more muslims on welfare, etc. its no utopia and its kinda like a desert.

If you can better your situation outside the USA, why not ??? After all, you do not consider people coming to the USA to better their situation as " whack jobs " ... Now, on the subject of " whack jobs " ...... listen to my clit ... :1orglaugh:1orglaugh |

http://www.australiaonnet.com/tourism/deserts.html An example: http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z...7/100_4190.jpg Conversion from petroleum-based fuels to ethanol is a grand idea but you have to grow grains for the ethanol stills and it's pretty tough to grow such grains in drought conditions and unless the ethanol stills are solar powered, they are run on fossil-based fuels.* *See AU oil imports: http://www.abc.net.au/news/2011-04-0...mports/2629658 Take a look at the rainfall in AU for the week ending July, 5, 2011: http://www.bom.gov.au/climate/current/weeklyrain.shtml Before you run away to move to what is essentially a desert you should consider these things. |

I'd go to Australia. My only concern would be the tax situation if I had dual citizenship and was earning money through online marketing.

i am out of here within 6 months or so. asia is my choice.

Also if you knew anything about Australia, which you don't, you would know that Lake Eyre goes from being one of the driest places on earth to one of the wettest places on earth in a never ending cycle. Hey guess what, there are big deserts in the USA with alot less flora and fauna than exist in Australian deserts. It's obvious you have never been to Australia and know nothing more about this country than you can manage to cut and paste. |

Didn't really read/give a shit about the rest of this post, but this part had me rolling |
