mobile wordpress?

What are you all using for a redirecting users to a mobile version of your wp blog? I'm trying to get something together, but I would like to hear what other people are using.

i wrote my own plugin that lets me pick a theme to show mobile visitors, part of the plugin also lets me target certain devices.

example

[is_iphone]
blah blah
[/is_iphone]

would only be displayed to iphones.

is_kindle, is_android, etc, etc.

I always wrote my own redirect using WURFL

i much prefer to keep the same domain.com url just serve a different theme.

I send them to mobile sponsors... they seem to convert better that way then sending them to content related sponsors.

Second that! There is also another plugin that will redirect your mobile users to a different theme then desktop users. WP Mobile Direct I think it's called. I'm on my phone now or I would post the link.

Here you go, I had the name wrong: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/...s-mobile-pack/

I've tested this one with a few of my blogs and it works. I'm working on a mobile tube theme now using this plugin.

fris 07-26-2011 07:35 PM

onetheme is another good theme for mobile

grzepa 11-21-2011 04:10 PM

Hmm from my experience when you change the theme, the widgets (in my case , it's mostly ads) stay the same, so if you redirect to a mobile theme, is it possible to load the new widgets too? (with mobile sponsors)

Are you trying to build a community blog or just get sales? I have found it more lucrative to redirect to a mobile paysite. Have done well with top bucks before. If people are finding you thru a search engine, they don't know what your site looks like anyway. They wouldn't really know the difference. But if you want a community, of people coming back and commenting etc. I see why the other way would work. I'm sure not everyone agrees with me. But its just my opinion.

But won't doing that affect your search ranking? If most of your search traffic is from mobile sources, surely you will get penalized by Google if their crawlers are just re-directed to another site?
