Just saw DEVIL, and ...

It's... good!

M. Knight Shamalalalalamalan finally made a decent movie. It's low budget, has no big stars, no special effects except for some very clever in-elevator-with-a-mirror camera work, and the suspense was good. It was a rather enjoyable 90 minutes of movie, and it reminded me of John Carpenter's "Prince of Darkness" (a little).

It's not an M Night Shyamalan movie. It was directed by John Eric Dowdle. I think M Night came up with the story, but he didn't even write the screenplay.

Check out Quarantine, if you want to see a decent flick by Dowdle. He also did this really sick low budget movie called The Poughkeepsie Tapes.

Quarantine and Devil were both pretty good

A movie about the devil and people trapped in an elevator. for 90 minutes WTF?

how is that scary.

well maybe being in the elevator with people that just ate mexican food but other than that.

Body double.

I've been working on movie sets the past few months. I am now jaded.

I now spend my time looking for shadows from boom mics and behind the camera crew, among other shit.

I didn't care for this movie, you know why? Because the trailer gives away the ending. The very last scene in the movie is the main character being dragged away into the darkness, and this exact same scene is the last one shown in the trailer. Trailer editors are dumbasses.

ottopottomouse 08-01-2011 07:31 AM

Was ok. Watchable, but not something i've bothered to recommend to anybody.

PR_Glen 08-01-2011 07:36 AM

are you saying the 6th sense wasn't good??

you're the same guy who wrote a 3 paragraph love letter about the last transformers movie right? Can't wait for your next review ;)

JamesGw 08-01-2011 07:37 AM

Devil was okay. and REC > Quarantine.

Caligari 08-01-2011 08:09 AM

it's alright, kind of like a 90 minute twilight zone but wishing Rod Serling had written it.

as off the wall as it was i thought his film The Happening was more interesting with its nature strikes back in the form of pissed of plants, similar to Day of the Triffids. but man did that film get panned. the cool thing about it is that you have to be pretty audacious to even consider doing a film with that storyline because you know critics are going to laugh you out of the theater;)

John-ACWM 08-01-2011 08:14 AM

Gonna give Devil a try.

True, but it didn't matter really. The point of that movie was the ride, not the destination. I don't think anyone thought she was getting out of there alive.

Quarantine 2 ain't too bad either.

Yeah, the original Spanish movie is better, but Quarantine is much better than the usual American remake. If you saw one, you don't really need to see the other.
