Trance is officially dead.

Been a fan of trance music for as long as i can remember, but the scene is just dead altogether now. None of the "superstar" dj's play proper trance music anymore.

The biggest dance/trance event we usually go to every year even changed it's name from 'Trance Energy' to just Energy' earlier this year.

Even Tiesto (who was basically everything that was good about trance) has given it up altogether. Probably did about 2 years ago infact. We've travelled all over the place to see him, and planned on checking him out in Vegas this year, but there's no point now since he's playing the same shitty house, electro music as most others out there.

The last twice we've seen him here were both let downs. Too much vocal funky shit.

Tiesto's words:
Quote:

The biggest thing to happen for me this year is my change in style. I play more eclectic, much more house-driven, and like, indie pop music. The whole trance part is deleted from my set now. It is completely gone.
He's actually playing a big event here at the end of the month but we're not even going to that. Even Armin Van Buuren was shit a couple of months ago.

twistyneck 08-02-2011 11:31 AM

It's not even music anyway, it is just what drugged up fags bounce around to.

TheSquealer 08-02-2011 11:32 AM

Every time you post, you make me hate Scottland more and more.

PR_Glen 08-02-2011 11:37 AM

I'm still waiting for disco to come back myself...

Sorry for not caring enough about your shitty, fog soaked rock to correct a simple typo

Jey p 08-02-2011 11:40 AM

I like trance, but I think the electronic music scene nowadays is lack of creativity...
actually pop music too, they just reuse successful stuff from the past...

80's, 90's ruled my world....

Don't be mad at me because your shitty little rock is little more than Great Britain's shit stain.

Choopa Phil 08-02-2011 11:49 AM

dubstep is taking over and finding its way into everything! I wouldnt say trance and house kinda converged more...boris, chus and ceballos, oscar G, they all have some pretty sick beats. Dub step is getting redic tho. I was listening to it back in 06, now its popular as hell and everyone thinks some pitched and bent bass lines are considered Dub...hopefully it doesnt follow the same route as DnB

Serge Litehead 08-02-2011 11:51 AM

In trance we trust but not in "superstar" dj's, they can go @#$% themselves =)

Scots aren't known for their brains, originality or wit... so i'll go easy on you. When we need a skirt for a man, we'll give you a call. I know you guys lead the world in that arena.

He is, but never been a huge fan of PVD.

His style was always a little different again. He always came across as boring as hell too. Most times he played, he'd be stuck behind his damn laptop screen...

Choopa Phil 08-02-2011 12:04 PM

PVD was great in his prime...i wish sasha and digweed were still around

Yes, you fail.

At life. At spelling. The list goes on...

VikingMan 08-02-2011 12:17 PM

The best trance came out 20 years ago when there were real illegal raves going on long before these mass commercialized douche fests where people take E that is not even real E. Being into this "scene" in 2011 makes about as much sense as driving around in a VW van and dressing up as a flower child.

96ukssob 08-02-2011 12:19 PM

that sucks, always enjoyed chillen out listening to some good trance music :Oh crap

I was 17 and always in rave parties in 1992 when The Age Of Love (The Jam & Spoon mix) was just released:

https://youtube.com/watch?v=mLUK1u6SjRQ

Actually whoever does not like the above track does not like Trance, maybe he like some other style that was released later. I do remember it so it is different from younger guys who was not there and remember something else associated with Trance word.

I remember in 1995 (16 years ago, the web not yet used outside few universities) some of my friends started to say that Trance it was dead, and that new music it was crap. New tracks are out today as there are new rock n roll or classical music tracks out, how many people buy and listen this it is another matter. I am in Europe and I have no idea what americans listened at the time.

I still go time to time to trance events despite I am a granny and I can tell young guys of today does not break dance wawin poppin like we used to do (and I still do altough a little like crap the robot in me it is out of order).

yabate 08-02-2011 07:24 PM

LOL
That video is wrong subtitled :)
Tiesto has changed a lil'bit his sound, like 95% of DJs did, but he didn't left trance.
He is also acting under his another alias "Allure".
One is sure, his music now is at least 10x worst then it was before.

And, there is also another trance DJs, and trance is not dead.
There are always some pplz who talks about some music genre how its dead :) .
I am not in trance, i am doing with psytrance / fullon and techno / mnmltechno :)

I'm with you on this, Tiesto has completely changed...

Recently i found beatport.com, maybe you can find a new style of music to listen to, you can listen to the top 10 tracks from each genre..

drmadcat 08-03-2011 01:01 AM

Eric Prydz rocks...
btw Tiesto is coming here next month so we are going to check it out. I've been to his shows 3 times already or so. It gets worse every time, but the tickets are very cheap so its ok :)

Also I'm starting to like House more then Trance, we've been to Sensation White a few months ago and it kicked ass.

you picked up dubstep in '06 too? :) good year. its mainstream success was inevitable and slowly it's becoming the new trance.

Danny B 08-03-2011 02:35 AM

Headed to DanceValley this weekend where Above and Beyond host the trance area.
There's still a ton of proper trance artists out there to enjoy, here's some examples for ya:

Above & Beyond

Super 8 & Tab

John O' Callaghan

Scot Project

Organ Donors!!!

Agreed times and styles are changing, I myself incorporate a lot more a lot more tech house in my sets these days, but always end up builing up to some epic trance bangers.
http://soundcloud.com/dancindanny/mix-time

And this tune has not left my car for months, ZOOM ZOOM!
Luca Antolini

nico-t 08-03-2011 03:56 AM

i really hated trance, i thought it was the worst electronic music ever. Then this new, boring house music became popular and it took my personal no1 spot for worst ever.
Funny that tiesto just follows the most horrible music styles ever made.. lol.
if only house was like it was in the 90's...
