Anyone here preparing for a financial meltdown?

Just curious as to what people are doing. Buying silver, gold etc. What if hyper inflation kicks in? Hasn't food prices increased like 100% in the last year?

IllTestYourGirls 08-03-2011 05:23 PM

Im buying a farm.

RyuLion 08-03-2011 05:26 PM

Yes, everything is increasing..

What your gonna grow your own food? You know you can buy a 50 lb bag of rice for $18.00. I wander what the same thing was 100 years ago. Mass producing food has brought the cost down so low most people don't even budget their food expenses. In reality for what you get food is dirt cheap. Maybe what 5% of someones monthly expenses? Maybe 10%. I'm willing to bet that 100 years ago it was 50% of a family's expenses.

Caligari 08-03-2011 05:30 PM

dont forget your gear for making bullets from your precious metals cuz thats all that shit will be good for if there is a real financial meltdown...

I think if society goes to total shit your right, precious metals won't be what people use to trade with. Food, ammo, weapons, clean water, etc will be used as currency.

Intrinsic 08-03-2011 05:37 PM

I plan to run into a super walmart, go straight for the guns section, then kill everyone in the food section !!!

i have been suggesting in these threads that people invest in a minimum 2000 gallon water tank. these things are are common in other countries and if you think about it, having that or a well is probably going to save your life if things really go to shit.
the tanks are pretty cheap btw and well worth it if you have no other water source.

the one thing you don't want to do is have to go out to look for supplies in case of a massive crisis.

Make sure you have purification test equipment/chemicals for your well water.

You must try the Cannibal Cookbook, although I find the liver crepes rather difficult to prepare...

Agreed, but cash is worse. Anybody have the energy to calculate what 1 US dollar is worth today if you consider it worth $1 dollar a year ago?

Barry-xlovecam 08-03-2011 06:36 PM

1. I don't think there will be anarchy.
2. Note to self: buy more ammo just in case ...
3. Spend cash on the deflated assets.

4. for marketplace: they say cooked human tastes like ::chicken::

Isn't that why food costs have supposedly increased in the last year? Presonally I have not noticed food prices increasing, but then again I'm not the one that buys groceries.

I'm getting a Mossberg 500 combat shotgun very soon.

I had a Mossberg 500 a few years ago -- I might even go with the 590 this time. Never had a Benelli, but from what I know you can't go wrong with that either.

Why so many? So you can sell one to the guy that might end up using it on you?

L-Pink 08-03-2011 08:14 PM

When choosing firearms I'm a firm believer of multiple weapons of the same model rather than a wide selection of different models.

Chief reasons are familiarity and if one fails it can be used for parts. I have 3 Benelli M4 Super 90 shotguns and 2 H&K 45acp pistols as primary weapons.

Warren buffet buys stuff that does well when we recover and he is one of the richest men in the world. As a counter point, can you point to one world leading economy that reverted to mob rule?

you shotgunners better start thinking longer range firepower because by the time the massive hoard gets into shotgunnin distance, we are going to roll right over you and on to your precious stockpile of shit.

I have the 590A1. Nice gun, but if I were to do it again I would just get the regular one without the thicker 20 inch barrel. It's way too heavy. I like the looks of the 590 Mariner.

I'm pretty good with a 30-06 deer rifle but nothing beats a good shotgun and rifled slugs are pretty accurate to 50 yards.

QFT. You don't get firearms that have short range. Pipe Crew knows what's up, get something that will reach out and touch someone before they can touch you. 100 Yards min. Which is no problem for any AR 15.

Shot guns and handguns are secondary, for close quarter fighting. If they get that close, you've fucked up.

And for the guy who had to put his 2 cents in about the heart being in the middle, the point of shooting in a group is to show skill. Which that close ass group showed well. .223 bounces like a motherfucker, and the hydrostatic shock alone would fuck your world up if not outright killing you. But these are all things people who shoot and train for SHTF scenarios know.

If you really want to get ready for the SHTF scenario. Read this blog kept by a guy during the Argentina meltdown. Should be read by EVERYONE.

http://when-shtf.blogspot.com/2010/1...-collapse.html

No need to thank me, just read it, and be ready if it ever happens.
