Email Marketing/Newsletter Solutions
Our member mailing list has grown huge and it's starting to give us trouble with getting mail to Yahoo and some of the other free mail services.
It's painfully clear I can't use any of the mail solution companies since it's adult, so I'm now looking at email marketing software to help clean up the mailing list by getting bounced mails off of there and I'd love something with statistical tools. My question to those of you who use external software to control your mailing lists and get your newsletters out is, which one do you like best and why? Thanks! |
sorry i cant help, but I just like poo...
A LOT... |
My company has built a custom solution, by using the following and a bunch of custom coding ofc.
Ubuntu v. 10.04.2LTS PostFix v.2.7.0 Apache v.2.2.14 BeansTalk v.1.4.6 PHP 5.3.2 MySQL v. 5.1.41 ProFTPg v.1.3.2C1 msmtp cbpolicyd Roadsend PHP 2.9 Perl CPAN Modul: Net::Server Perl CPAN Modul: Net::CIDR Perl CPAN Modul: Config::IniFiles Perl CPAN Modul: Cache::FastMmap It can scale to an infinite amount of servers (in theory lol). If you are enrolled in the MS JMRP program it will auto-remove people that flags the mails as spam. It will auto remove hardbounces pr. the parameter you set. It creates gold lists based on parameters set (for instance, all people that's clicked/opened a mail within the last 90 days). And a lot more. The interface is not awesome, not at all, stats are XML based so you can build whatever you want on it. But you can do split testing, send from multiple domains to multiple lists and other standard features. But feel free to hit me up on ICQ if you want to talk more. |
We use Interspire Email Marketer and it's awesome.
Has all the statistics you need, bounce details, let's you integrate polls and stuff too, A/B testing, etc. etc. etc. |
this threads make me more interested with the topic :)

Hey Petra, yea there are 3rd party ESPs out there that will do the sending...to be honest everyone of the big ones have adult clients...they generally keep it hush hush a bit, but it happens and often enough...but they'll be interested in volumes, how old the list is in general, etc, etc
This is a topic I know a heck of a lot about...a growing list can sometimes be a double-edged sword depending on how you handle list hygiene - yahoo in particular can be dufficult, many large mainstream senders have the same issues with yahoo. Consider the idea of "engagement" - many of the big, free ISPs have moved to looking at this, how engaged are the receivers on your list in general - ie old, inactive emails, how engaged are they for your particular sending - open rates are often used here as click thru rates can be misleading when looking at sending reputation. If you have the ability to remove folks that just never open or click your messages do it, or in the last email above the fold place a warning saying "hey you're about to miss out on all these awesome offers, click here or this will be the last you get, yadda, yadda, yadda - a re-engagement campaign. Its actually good to run this way, do re-enagement campaigns on a regular bases (not too frequent)...old emails, even addys older than a year have the potential to become spam trap addys... |
guess my big point was - dont just look at complaints a lower engagement, even if the addys are not complaining will get you bulked at yahoo, but I did see a mention of bounces..very important in determining if you should re-try, how long you should wait to re-try addy, etc
because of engagement...getting people to open that first email from you become even more critical...it can effect how other deployments to that addy are received - bulk vs. inbox - make sure that first verification mailer is compelling, especially subject line whew, k im done...folks can hit me up offlist if they want to talk |

It's the obvious choice here... |

However, if I were to do that, I'd lose my own 'Personal Moral High-ground'... See, I am who I am, and I do what I do... Cause I am ME... NOT CAUSE I'm paid to do so... Likewise, I use my own photo as my avatar, and have given plenty of true details of who I am, where I live, and what I do... (When Asked) I will happily approach anyone, in person, at a show, face to face, and introduce myself. They can choose to punch me, or to shake my hand, but that is THERE Choice... I am a GFY rarity ! I am here cause I WANT TO BE HERE, and I have been here, nearly EVERY DAY since 2002... I have NO SIG... I sell nothing - I promote nothing - But those who know me... And, as I say, I DO attend shows, and I am happy to introduce myself... Those people understand me, and my 'strange posting style'... Anyhoo, thats all... Roll on XBIZ EU! WOOT WOOT! |
