Too Many Domain Names!
Fuck.
I just noticed after buying 3 domains tonight that I have purchased around 100 domains in the past few months. I know I have a few shitty ones but I think I have snagged a few gems as well. Do you guys have a shit ton of names as well or am I just nutty? I better make some money by next year before those renewal emails come in lmao! I had one game plan for domain names bu that has changed and will probably drop around of these come renewal time. That still leaves me with 60 domains lol. My biggest issue is that I think I am finding some great names, but I keep finding more and more available names. I am probably off my rocker. Tonight I bought maledomporn, malesubporn, and femsubporn.com. A lot of my other names are better than these, in my opinion. Am I too stupid hoarding these domain names in hopes of future use? I just don't know whether or not I should trust my gut on this one. :helpme I have asked for advice 2 or 3 times already this month and I apologize for that. I don't want to flood the forums with my ccquestions as I am sure that gets annoying, just a complete newb with doubts if I am moving in the right direction at times. On a side note, I hope everyone's having a great start to their weekend :) |
If you're not going to develop it in the next year then it's probably a waste. The reality is that you're likely not going to develop them and good names are dropping every day.
I use bigdotmedia's domain manager script to keep them all in check and I review monthly to decide which I'm going to let drop. I think in this day and age its better to thin your domain inventory rather than grow it. |
It's an addiction thats been pretty profitable over the years. Not so great right now but thats a given with the economy.
|
I used to buy domains all the time... Got to the point where I owned a good few hundred...
Then I just thought 'whats the point' and concentrated on my core ones relating to my main site.... Let most of the others go... But this was like 5 / 6 years ago. I dont miss them really :) |
if you can make return of 10$ on them, then ok, if you didt spent many hours to setup that 10$ :)

Do you do keyword research and traffic research before buying domains ? |

i was addicted previously and now i am letting them drop, which havent developed or which havent made $10 in the past year.

I've cut my holdings over the years, but I still have a few ;)

Thanks for all the posts guys, It's nice to see posts from both sides of the issue.

I got one domain from the pool I thought was good and decided to see if the porn version was available and i got one of those domainsale.com landing pages. I sent them an email asking what they wanted expecting a low amount and got this. In my head with my inexperience I say to myself, "Hey! I must be doing a good job with these names!" lol. That kind of stuff I think is what has kept feeding me to buy more even though I have no idea how accurate they are lmao lol. I know there are other factors like age etc. I should probably consider as well. |

Lol sometimes I will throw an available domain I kind of want in a post to see if someone buys it. If they do it makes me feel better about my choices. |

I too went on wild domain buying sprees with a credit card in hand.
Always thinking wow I can't believe this one is free, better snap it up. Or when having a certain project in mind buying all related domains that might fit. That just lead to me having no structure or oranisation in my portfolio and tons of domains just sitting about untouched. I now never do impulse buys anymore and give myself at least a night to sleep over it after doing my research unless it is a clear cut must buy now feeling. Edit You'll be especially tempted right now with so many adult domains not being renewed and dropping. Stay strong :-) |

Your best bet is to semi-develope them to generate a little traffic as a long-term investment
If/when the economy turns around, if/when piracy isn't so rampant, be it 3-10-20 years from now you'll be laughing If you can't wait that long - you've wasted your time and money. https://gfy.com/image.php?u=133432&dateline=1304600651 |

Pinupfetish.com has been available for months, I check on it from time to time but never went with it because I don't know how popular the pinup niche is, how great the domain is since I dont have any strong porn based keywords in it, or how many sponsors there are for it. Prob the only domain I have had any willpower with lol. |
The true is that registering domain is a kind of addiction.
I am a domain addicted. Maybe we have to go to some REHAB. I'm always registering good names, or at least I believe I am. One day later I realize that most domains are a piece of shit. I ended with a portfolio with 100 domains, most of them are crap. Crazy addiction. |

I am but an afiliate but ive got some ideas. If I can get some money and put more bucks into getting some equipment etc., I would love to play with some ideas. I have exfiance.com that I would love to work on. Maybe like half of it like a dancingbear kind of deal, part of it like fed up fiances that end up cheating and breaking it off/leaving a tape for the guy to see lmao, caught cheating on honeymoon, all kinds of stuff. I have rvsluts.com, I saw a porn clip once of these chicks and guys getting drunk and fooling around in an rv. Would be cool to have them going on trips and fucking, maybe some public play, "picking up" people. To me that's something of course I will need some time/money to accomplish, but I think it's a cool idea and am just hopeful that one day I could possible make it work. Payserve has a similar program, I hope their content will work with the rv aspect of the name and will prob end up sponsoring that. Ever domain I buy I have some sort of plan for. I think I just need to be smart and start finding a way to sell the sponsored content. I think in time I will eventually figure it all out and may be able to play around. |

I bought viewerinc.com, that was going to be my portfolio site. I bought 50 viewer names, asianviewer.com, ebonyviewer.com, toonviewer, altviewer bedroomviewer, etc.. I was going to try and build a huge network with a similar brand that I was hoping people would learn to trust. Now, I am not so sure about that and will probably drop all of those next year. I see no one doing that and I am not so sure now how great those names are with the viewer in it. I do think I need some rehab as well though lmao. Now its no nonsense names. porn keywords only. Thanks for your post, I am finding I share the same thoughts as some of you who have done similar things and I feel less ooky for my actions :thumbsup |
For my less good domains, As long as I can make $50 or more a year, with only one hour initial work and MAYBE a few minutes here and there adding something new, I keep them.
|
The pro domain holding people are addicts themselves. It's like one crack head asking another if they should quit.
|
I'm definitely reducing the portfolio these days, but I still have a lot. Some things you have to evaluate honestly though (like blog domains not being so valuable as they once were, as blogs become less of a "thing").
|
Yes it is like crack. I am beyond addicted. Helppppp! :)
|
those names you posted are a good example of why the best bet in domaining is to own a registrar and sit back and relax while speculators register loads of variations of the same faulty names that will never get developed. how many years will you renew those mixed and matched 3 obscure term phrases before you drop them? in essence each name is not costing you $8-$10, they are costing you like $50 - $100 because you will hold and hold and hold lol. no offense- it is just a reality of the biz.
|
look at the 30 mil names at godaddy that novices registered after seeing flashy commercials lol.... lemmings
