The reason why "The Wire" was a truly great program was that it showed its characters as true human beings, complex and difficult to understand. In that program it explained the processes that make people riot, deal in drugs and crime.

I think it would be fair to say that an overwhelming majority of those scumbags were claiming benefits and were in social housing. I saw one 18 year old girl in a track suit on the news saying that she was looting because she wanted to get her taxes back. How much tax do you really believe this chav has paid to date? Why did she think the store owner had her taxes contained in the x-box that she was stealing?
