Cue the people who say you're an idiot for getting your news from shows like that when in reality every viewer knows what they are actually watching.

The clusterfuck that is this congress and administration could actually help bring about some change next election. But how long will it last?

The candidates will still need money to run, and that's when the problem comes in.

I like the idea, but we also need tax payer funded elections as well otherwise it will be the same old, same old.

So I can see a solution where the candidates are chosen in a system similar to the one you posted, then each candidate is given a set budget of tax payer funds that they can spend however they want, but no more money is allowed to enter the election in any form. Then add in term limits and I think we would have the most modern and functional democracy in the world.

I really don't understand why tax money isn't used to fund elections, honestly. It's not a huge expense and it'd help cut out lobbying, which is one of the worst things to happen to this country.

The hardest part would be the distribution of the funds. Are we going to split $2 billion USD among 15 candidates?

Taxes are already used to fund elections. See the FEC site. Most successful candidates just also get other funding and some skip government funding.
