MESA, Ariz. ? GoDaddy, the Internet's largest registrar, has announced pricing for .XXX domain names.
.XXX domains acquired through GoDaddy are priced the following: During the Sunrise A period, .XXX domains through GoDaddy will be priced at $209.99 for the non-refundable application fee and first year of domain name registration. Renewals are $99.99 per year. Sunrise A applicants must have either verifiable trademark rights or are owners of exact matching domains in other TLDs. During Sunrise B, created for non-adult industry intellectual property holders, GoDaddy plans on charging $199.99 for the one-time, non-refundable, non-reversible processing fee that blocks the domain name from .XXX registration for 10 years. Landrush is designed for online adult operators but is not on a first-come, first-served basis and applications for competing names will go to a closed-auction at the end of the period. General Availability pricing for GoDaddy .XXX domain names is $99.99 for the first year of domain name registration, with renewals at $99.99 per year. ?Having had a front row seat as an observer of the human behavior behind domain names and direct navigation for nearly a decade, I believe that .XXX, unlike many other new tlds, offers SLD registrants the opportunity for long term type-in traffic. Many people navigate in a way that suggests they believe .XXX existed all along. Few strings other than .XXX share this attribute. ICM Registry?s success in tapping this well of traffic should create long-term opportunity for registrants of all stripes and color. My chance meeting with Stuart Lawley at the 2005 ICANN meeting in Vancouver, and his tenacity and big-hearted altruistic outlook, gave me the confidence that this space would be run in a way that treats its registrants fairly. I believe .XXX will make a great accompaniment to the .COM version of adult sites and that one day .XXX could eclipse the .COM version of name-brands for adult sites.? His purchase was paid in cash. Without incentives or rebates. |
7 figures you say, just wow. I don't have that much and even If I had there are much better ways to invest 7 figures.
I'm not going to preorder anything when all good are already taken then what's the point of spending that much money for something second or third class that is not .com? I did a shot for a few .co when there was Landrush period... but there were auction for all my picks anyway and the bids ended on something like 40.000 USD for short cool name (not even a keyword). Obviously I didn't take part in that madness. |
Pecker pulled. Links to follow.

<quote> "I am sorry that some of you still seem to be focussed on the cost, without seeing the revenue generating upside." </quote> Wow!! |
Wow, that's pretty expensive.
|
so i have 60 adult domains if i buy .xxx for each one it will cost me
$209 x 60 = $12540 ye right fucking crazy |
Webmasters are cheap mofos by trade. A top level XXX domain sure, but everything else is worthless.

Priced so high they priced themselves out of the market and out of relevancy. The way the economy is right now with people bailing out of the adult industry and closing shop and/or being on a lot tighter budgets you not going to find many people to folk over $100+ for a domain name. Not when they can renew 10 of their dot com domains that they are likely using for the same price of 1 new .xxx. Also, domainers are less likely to buy up domains on pure speculation due to the high price. A lot of those guys can't afford to renew their decent .com portofolios much less can they drop a lot of money on speculating on a new tld , which has a very narrow niche resale market. Lastly, less sales = less hype and less use which also = less publicity and less exposure to the general public which = less chances of it ever being pushed/accept as law. All signs point to fail. Then throw in some new tld's hopefully in the next year or so for .adult .sex .porn etc.. and .xxx becomes the butt of a joke about some British wanker who wasted 10 years and millions of dollars on a total bust. Moron doesn't understand that he will make 10x more money in volume with lower prices than he would by pricing it so high that very few people will buy it. Quote:

The problem with Stuarts pricing points is that they are so high that once you get past the few idiots who feel the need to register .xxx for their adult domains, and you eliminate the 10 - 20K of the best domains, no one else is going to pay $100 + for a mediocre .xxx domain name that would never see any type in traffic on a .com much less would it on a .xxx Now if they were priced at $10 - $20 a piece he would probably have millions of registrations and almost everyone with an adult .com would buy the .xxx Greedy Stuart, finally gets things approved and he is going to fuck it up for himself with a really high pricing point. :) |

Because online adult has balls the size of peas. If ICM lose money on this and stop selling .xxx, what happens to the domains that were sold? |
shameless rip off! :(
|
I do not like the .xxx ending. May be there will be a law that allows adult content only on .xxx domains.
|
Silly. Even $99 a year is a joke.
|
I make good money without bigtits.com. I think I will do equally well without bigtits.xxx.
|
No sir, il pass over it
|
.xxx names are so valuable they should be more money ... |

You're fucking stupid if you don't buy xxx.
Because: - there's gonna' be legislation against using .com for porn in some countries really soon. - nobody knows what the search engines will do - nobody knows what the cc processors will do Don't go buying everything but cover your main names. Yes the price is ridiculous and the whole idea is fucking stupid but there you go. |
This is how the place I usually register .co.uk domains at is trying to get people to buy the .xxx - totally scare tactics:
http://i.imgur.com/H1CQJ.png 123-reg.co.uk pricing: Sunrise AT £199.99 ($325) Sunrise AD £149.99 ($244) Sunrise B £199.99 ($325) one-off blocking fee Landrush £129.99 ($212) Pre-reg £69.99 ($114) |
wtf those prices?

I read the shit above about type in traffic and I can see that being plausible. Sitting there at your computer typing in every dirty combination of keywords followed by xxx to see where it takes you.
The only problem i see with that - .xxx will be filled with squatters. |
