A little over 100 years ago people were laughing at the Wright brothers for their crazy idea of building a flying machine. People were saying they will never succeed and who would want to use such risky and unsafe apparatus since at that time you could travel faster and safer by other means. And look where it took us 100 years later, millions of people use airplanes for their travels, it is safe; we are able to cover distances in less than a day which previously took months; knowing some aircraft can fly in ultrasonic speeds isn't surprise to anyone these days in developed countries. But back then many people were short sighted, just like we see today people laughing at the new (working) monetary concept. There is no question in my mind that future is going to be more digital than ever. Even if Bitcoin won't succeed although very unlikely in my opinion, it will spring new digital effective means of commerce and trade. With you or without technology will lead us in to the future =)
Paper money is so 20th century, slow and expensive transfers and transactions is the thing of the past. Keep laughing boys and girls, although it's disappointing that so many of you don't get what technology and progress is all about, especially on the verge of current economic and financial crisis. |
Anyone contacted the IRS and tried to pay their taxes in BitCoins? :1orglaugh

Bitcoins are to currency as the Hindenburg was to aviation ... An interesting idea at the time but the end won't be pretty.

Titanic > Hindenburg Honestly I can't agree with your analogy though at all, it doesn't matter if Bitcoin worth one dollar or thousands, its beauty in its utility and technology behind. |
i miss the old days when cults would form around a jim jones or david koresh. now people form them around electronic currencies.

Power To The Sheeple ...

Current financial system on the other hand promotes un-accountability for governments - they can print as much as they please and expand itself without any reasonable ground, further it allows for fractional reserve where banks can lend one dollar nine times over - these are roots of all existing problems in today's world. with bitcoins bank won't be able to take 1 bitcoin and lend it 9 times over, governments won't be able to make them as much as they please. Bitcoin technology promotes accountability. Politics is pure comedy central material. Please provide any logic and reasons why are we in a shithole with current system since you believe we are blind illogical and unreasonable sheeple? |

I love when as a startup business I talk to banks or payment processors and they ask "what's your monthly volume?" - this is a start up business I'm talking about for gods sake! and then they respond we can't process above or below such and such limits and it will cost you small fortune to setup and maintain your processing and if you don't reach certain limits we will impose some more fees or cut you off completely. Wires - Have you dealt with international wires? they used to take 3-5 business days, thankfully most wires nowadays get posted within 24hr period. It takes $40 to send an international wire from US, on receiving side in some other countries it takes $20 + 1% to receive a wire. Most cases you have to get your ass to a bank branch to send an international wire and sometime you have to wait in line before speaking with customer representative. Electronic money isn't anything new I will agree with that, but moving funds from one platform to another costs a good penny and many times takes a lot of time. Simple example: receive money in paypal (3% fee), move these funds to a bank - wait 3-4 business days, send international wire - pay $40, spend an hour to get to and from bank, wait another day for funds posted to beneficiary and have them pay for the wire too. IF receiving side can't for some reason accept wire and funds need to be loaded to another online wallet platform it can cost even more and take much more time. EDIT: I must add that Bitcoin in comparison with other electronic money is completely new and unique technological approach, it's not just a online wallet platform, it is a currency on its own with its own unique characteristics and properties. Nothing like it has existed before. |
it is just a matter of time before the U.S. Govt steps in on this one. i don't have a dog in this race but it is interesting that the "cult" or "crowd" has been crowdsourced with the bitcoin mining etc. and that people are talking about bitcoin a lot.
