Traffic and free blog hosts
 

How's the traffic on blogs hosted on thumblogger for instance? I usually always buy a new domain for every blog I create however I'm wondering if I should throw up a bunch of free blogs as well for a little traffic and to link to my main blogs.

Only use free hosted blogs as cheap throwaways and easy links to your main sites.
If you have more ideas for blogs than you have domains then look into WP-MU rather than a free hosted blog.

I think it is a good idea to have some blogs on freehosts, just to spread out your linklove, but don't host the blogs you really sweat hard over on those and definitely invest in learning WP-MU.

In the past few months we have seen Google giving much less authority to blog hosts and thus if you do a cost/benefit analysis, it's not worth setting anything else up than your own domain and blog on your own domain.

There are shifting sands in the wider IM community and a part of that is , stick with what you control.
