I grew up in the tri-state area there and I don't recall a hurricane ever hitting there. Was I just not paying attention?
|

I remember Floyd. My cousin was having a birthday party and it was crazy outside. Was too young to remember Bob. Don't really remember Isabel either. That said, NY gets hit about once every five years by a hurricane of some sort. This might be the worst in a long time, though. And it looks like it'll be a direct hit, which is pretty rare. |
good luck guys, stay safe.,
god bless u all. |
Oh, I also wanted to add that ice storms usually kill power longer than most hurricanes will. It's not unusual for us to loser power for a 1-3 weeks after getting 2-3 inches of ice with any sort of wind. Happens once every two to three years (major outages.)
New York City doesn't have this issue. Their power grid is more stable than it is where I am (about 50 miles upstate.) |
follow it live

Me too. I remember hurricanes, but really they were just like bad storms by the time they get up north. |
North and South Carolina are looking like it is coming or getting stronger on earthcam.
|
I hope it doesnt hit, i really dont want to have to endure 10 years of tribute and rememberance documentaries as well as loads of Hollywood films about it.
|
Isabel, Gloria and Floyd were about the worst I recall. Lots of downed trees and rain.
These days most major supermarkets have generators of their own and the 'warning' hype has been so ridiculously overplayed for days that every possible response entity is already buzzing around on their highest possible alert. My bet is we all live through it and 10 years from now a thread about the new storm will include mention of Irene along with the others... nothing more. :2 cents: |
Is it true that they are already canceling flights? A friend of mine is staying with me in town and she said her flight got canceled already for saturday.

nothing yet here, but a friend posted something intesting on FB saying that NYC heads are using this as an excuse to do a state of emergency test here, since they stoped all mass transit at noon, and evacuated coast areas, etc.
NYC has been one of the safest places as far as natural disasters... Fuck I just moved 10 minutes north to westchester and I am parked under a big tree. :helpme |
Never seen that earthcam.com before it is pretty neat, do the people just wave randomly or do they know they are being watched?
