## seeking cdn hosting solution ##

For a new project we are seeking hosting:

1 Loadbalancer
2 machines 16GB RAM, 2-4x 500GB SAS, 8 cores
2 machines 16GB RAM, 2-4x 300GB SAS, 8 cores
1 backup
min 1250 Mbit, 1 Gigabit line at least

Traffic comes from :
US 60%
EU 30%
Other 10%

We need a CDN solution, pricing would be based on financial lease of the machines (2 years write-off, then machines are ours and we can do what we want with them)

Please breakdonw pricing:
* Financial lease machines
* Price Rack and 1250 Mbit
* Price additional Mbit
* Preferabel IPs in more than 1 Cblock

Other
* Server to server traffic must be free
* Preferabel 1 datacenter in Amsterdam
* Pricing in Dollars

Shoot info to mike the dutch on gmail.com

Cheers,
MD

I might be mistaken but I believe cdn is all shared hosting and static content.

At least that is what I saw when looking around...

Expect problems. There is a right way to do a CDN. It was documented in the HTTP standard and Google and others have done it on the origin side for years. AOL and other ISPs have been doing it for years on the ISP side. Unfortunately, when "CDN" became a buzzword a lot of companies developed CDNs without paying any attention at all to how they need to be set up in order to work right. Some of the larger hosting companies have CDNs full of HUGE mistakes. Before CDN was a buzzword it was called a reverse proxy network. Sometimes I wonder if some of the people setting them up now even know that what they are setting up is called a reverse proxy. Based on the cluelessness of some of the CDN designs, it looks like the designers just dreamed up their own ideas without knowing anything about what's known to work, what's known to not work, and what is required by the standards.

All that say - expect problems. After you work around the problems, expect that a few months later more subtle problems will be revealed.

Mhh interesting, so you you owuld recommend keeping it all at once place, the benefits of a CDN is not enough for all the hassle?

Thanks , I will start reading a bit more into this so I have a better understanding.

Hey Mike,

we use swiftwill's CDN and it's great - awesome customer support, easy to use, great price too. They're always online on US time / EU time too. Hit me up on Skype ;)
