Blockbuster to close all stores in Canada
I don't know anyone that rents physical discs from stores anymore. Surprised it took this long.

another Blockbuster success story.
|
Mom and pop outlets arise from the ashes!!!
|
I rent mental discs.
|
I actually got a call from Rentrack this last month asking if I'd be interested in setting up new video rental operations in my local market.
|
People do rent disks from the store. Last year my kid had to watch some movie as part of their homework assignment so a quick trip a block away to blockbuster did the trick.
But otherwise I can't remember the last time I rented a DVD. |
I use Blockbuster a lot...
When I'm on vacation in a foreign country. |
All of them around me are gone. I couldn't tell you where the closest open BB is at this point.

Red Box is convenient and that person who invented it is genius. Why pay $6 for a VOD movie when you can pick it up from the store for $1. I'm still the kind of guy that doesnt like to wait for shit and was suprised a few weeks ago when I wanted to see the movie Limitless it wasnt on VOD so went to, what I thought was still a blockbuster but CLOSED. So was another one. All gone |
I blame torrents.
|
They closed most of them here in San Diego. I haven't been to one in years. Blockbuster was the shit on the weekends. Rent 4 movies and watch them all weekend. No it's either Netflix or Red Box, VOD if I'm too lazy to go out.

Ehh????!

Not to mention the fucking gas prices. |
Impressed that hey can close ALL stores in Canada...
What about the stores that sell groceries, and are in no way related to them? Must be a bummer... |

i used to use them to rent video games.

My buddy got laid off a while back after 17 years of service to Blockbuster. He was absolutely shocked as Blockbuster was still a profitable venture in Canada. He thought for sure the company would be sold to a competitor to pay down Blockbuster's USA debt.

There is still a Blockbuster open near my place here in central FL. I really like jumping on my bicycle for the short ride to it which gets me some exercise. I like browsing the isles, looking at the case covers to see what's out. They also have a huge video game section with multiple copies so I can almost always find the game I want on the shelf. The staff has always been very cool and I enjoy their conversation. They have recently reduced their prices and my favorite now is .49 movies on Sunday.
For me personally, its a welcome diversion to step away from my computer and make a trip to my local Blockbuster. I think it would suck if I had to get everything without leaving the house or interacting with the outside world. :winkwink: |

I used to really like block buster. Always had the game pass and unlimited rental subscription thing.

Yeah, every store around here has been closed for a while!

one in kits always seems busy
|
I'm kind of bummed I can't walk into a damn video store, and browse the boxes. Netflix can't match that experience, and also doesn't have the immediacy of being able to rent on a whim.
Redbox sucks. They don't even get half of the new releases, and they take longer to get stuff. I rent the occasional movie from there, but its mostly for mouth breathers that want to see the new Katherine Heigl movie. If want anything obscure or indie, you're fucked. |
well im fine as were so fucking behind in Australia they will be open for another 10 years here
