who listens to these kooks on Coast to Coast radio program?

i feel like i'm in a mental hospital listening to this show - the host never even challenges the guests, any crazy theory these weirdos come up with and he just agrees with them, like it's established scientific fact.

porno jew 09-02-2011 11:01 AM

almost like here.

kane 09-02-2011 11:17 AM

I used to listen to that a lot when I worked a graveyard shift. This was a long time ago and Art Bell was the nightly host. He would sometimes question the guests, but often he let them state their case and just let the audience decide if they were crazy or not.

There was one night where a guy claimed he had built a working time machine. If you sent him $1 plus a self addressed stamped envelope he would send you the plans. One of the guys I worked with had to send for it. When they came they were pretty lame (as you would expect), but I wonder how many people sent that dude $1 that night just for the fun of it.

Jack Sparrow 09-02-2011 12:39 PM

I do and they make more sense then you in any of your posts :)

Jayvis 09-02-2011 01:44 PM

I like the show minus the nutjobs as you mentioned... but they do get a decent guest or author every now and then! Hell even the nutjobs are still damn entertaining though. :)

Diomed 09-02-2011 03:02 PM

His interviews with Steven Greer are pretty interesting IMO.

I try to always keep an open mind.

That's the whole point!

But it's long past its glory days with gems like the time traveler line: Art used to do a night where only time travelers could call a certain number.

"Let's go to the time traveler line! Hello, Bleepzorg!"

"Uh, hi, yes, Mr. Bell, I am a time traveler from the year 2540. I've come back to prevent World War 3."

...he'd let each time traveler tell his story, and ask engaging questions, no cynicism; just playing along, even helping them when they got stuck in their stories :1orglaugh.

One of the coolest things I ever heard was on that show. It was a long time ago and Art Bell did a great interview with a guy who as a Marine Sniper during the Vietnam war. Just hearing what that guy did and how they operated was pretty amazing.

I used to like it back in the old days with Art Bell until they started having so many commercials, it was just too much.

I remember trying to search for Art Bell on the internet back then and all the results were about either art or bells.

DBS.US 09-02-2011 05:58 PM

Maybe it's all true and your the weirdo?

After listening to this show I had to pick up the book... I know, I know, it's ridiculous but even taking it as fiction, one heck of a good story!

Here's the book: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whitley_Strieber

Quote:

In the pre-dawn hours of June 6, 1998 Strieber was allegedly visited in his Toronto hotel room by a mysterious but very ordinary-looking elderly Caucasian man who delivered an unsolicited lecture covering various subjects from spirituality to the environment.
Before publishing The Key Strieber co-authored, with Art Bell, The Coming Global Superstorm (1999), a book about the possibility of rapid and destructive climate change.

If you have the I Heart Radio app just search for a Cincinnati AM station called 55 KRC... you'll get a great quality stream every night.

2MuchMark 09-02-2011 06:09 PM

I will listen if I'm driving home late night, but its really frustrating. They have kook after kook talking about their ridiculous theories and trying to sell them like they are fact. They end up wide-open for scrutiny but the talk show host won't even challenge them with a simple common sense question. Clearly the show sells to kooks.

It would be so nice to have some serious science shows on the radio. My only dose of science is Daily Planet for 1 hour a day on late night TV. The rest is crap. My mind is so bored and is desperate for stimulating ideas. Help!

Coast to Coast used to be fun and weird, BUT lately---its bullshit.

east of the rockies or west or the rockies, if you've ever been anally probed by an alien, please call in and tell them about it.

NaughtyRob 09-02-2011 10:12 PM

I listened to it for years when Art Bell was the host, he started it. I listened from like 1995-2008 or so off and on.

NaughtyRob 09-02-2011 10:14 PM

The movie "The Day after Tomorrow" was based on that book.

the guy who does it on the weekend is better but he stays away from the alien stuff and deals more with religion and social phenomena.

people laugh at me for listening to AM talk radio - been doing it my whole life, i like to listen to people who are interesting even if they're full of shit and i think radio is a better medium than TV for that. as a teenager i would listen to Larry King when he had an all night radio show, i loved it, the night John Lennon was killed i stayed up all night and listened to a lot of great guests and callers, fuck school, i got a better education listening to that show until 5AM then i did the next morning at school. when he went to CNN and i could actually see him brown nosing all his guests and his little costume with the suspenders - wish he had stayed on radio.

What you know about the madman?? ever been to the phan chat? lol

Phil is one of the greatest (and biggest madmen) in the radio biz!

I LOVE his old Art Bell bits, back from his KFI days.

And speaking of Art, when he hosted C2C it was a blast! the best part was the fact that he WOULD treat those 'kooks' like normal people and let them have their say.

if you go to shoutcast there are still a few streams of old Bell shows, there were about 10 but the guy running them stopped in the last week or so, he's running his own show on the stream now.

Talk radio is great, I normally have either Phil archives (or the prior nights live show) or old C2C shows running while I'm working, otherwise something on netflix for background noise.

he's got a woman on, she sounds like a simpleton, says she was clinically dead for 8 minutes and was on the 'other side', went through a 'life review' and now doesn't fear death.

i don't believe any of these type of experiences, all in their imagination, everything based on things they've heard through their lives about what heaven is like i.e. life review
i don't doubt she believes it though.

Jack Sparrow 09-03-2011 01:27 AM

Why do you listen if you think its bullshit.

i wouldn't be so convinced until i've experienced it, i've had 3 and it's not something that can be put into words at all

buddy of mine got a job driving truck, started listening to Art Bell, and became a Tea Party conservative.

Late at night, stoned out of my gourd....it's all pretty cool.
Check out the Ancient Aliens series on the History Channel. FAN-FUCKING-TASTIC!!! :)

crockett 09-03-2011 11:06 AM

I haven't heard that show in years, but he's damn sure been on the air a long as time. Likely the show's secret to success is not from the whack jobs that probably believe anything they hear, but the people laughing their asses off.

I'd assume a lot of it is just made up "personalities" with whack job stuff to say just for the air play.

porno jew 09-03-2011 01:04 PM

all the best weird shit has moved into the internet radio / podcast area.

In short, he pissed someone off in Government.

Another who's totally caught off guard on how well Ancient Aliens is able to connect the dots no matter how crazy it sounds. Especially when it come to the religious aspects of things because it's more then plausible. Hell, I even bought a book about the Ancient Sumerian Scripts that was great reading, we humans we're designed to mine gold for aliens.

I think the Sumerian stuff is science fiction but I do enjoy listening because it is fascinating and those who promote or believe in it have sure put a lot of work into making it sound plausible, they've created their own history and are good at connecting the dots and have found enough 'evidence' to create a pseudo science/history around it.

I still think it's imaginary fiction but it's compelling enough to listen and read about - for me as much because the people who study it are so convinced they are piecing together the real history of an ancient alien race on Earth.
