5 Places Where You Can Be Identified With Facial Recognition Technology

Facial scanning and biometric technology are nothing new, but it is gaining popularity fast. On Facebook, facial recognition software scans photos you upload to find people you may know.

But here are a few other places where your face is being scanned and run through a database for identification, while you don?t even know it. Just imagine, walking down the street and not only is a security camera recording you, but it?s identified you through facial recognition technology? http://tecbeat.com/post/9758306282/5...ed-with-facial

I would think Airports should be added to that list.

From my understanding, virtually all the currently deployed facial recognition tech rely in large part on comparing / measuring between key points of the face. Far from 100%. Makeup, glasses, one's mood, etc can throw it off.

However, facial recognition that captures and compare eye irises is nearly 100% accurate, even able to tell even identical twins apart with no difficulty at all. Such tech is still very limited, since the optics and resolution required to capture images of one's irises from a distance is not yet readily feasible... though, from my understanding, it's being tested at some airports / train stations though, so it's coming.

Irises are, reportedly, as unique, if not moreso, than fingerprints, and, far more difficult to alter; wearing contacts with someone else's iris print may work though - there was a James Bond movie in which that approach was used, so it's not a new idea.

Bottom line is in several years, iris scanning from a distance could become common place ... when it does, anonymity most everywhere will be a thing of the past.

Yep thats why the California DMV doesn't like you smile in your photo ID anymore. To make it easier on the facial recognition devices.

absolutely horrible story. no sources, no examples, no links, no nothing. just five vague statements with nothing to back it up.
