Rescue Me series finale tonight

I love the show and can't wait for tonight's series finale. Dennis Leary said there is a funeral scene so apparently someone dies, but he wouldn't say who.

My prediction is that Lou dies in the fire and maybe another guy from the engine. Tommy survives and keeps his promise to retire or take a desk job.

Should be a pretty emotional show.

I'll be watching this with a few volunteer fire fighters tonight. I think I read somewhere that Denis Leary wanted Tommy Gavin to die, but his cocreator overruled him saying Tommy Gavin's punishment for everything he's done will be to live.

Yeah, I don't think Tommy will die. It would have been a righteous ending if he did, but like you say, after all he has done his purgatory will be chained to a desk having to live the life of an average middle class guy who can't drink.

It's not all that different from how The Shield ended except Leary isn't nearly as big an antihero protagonist.

SOunds interesting. I will watch it.

That's sort of how the Shield ended: chained to a desk. I'm glad it's over, actually. Used to be one of my favorites, but went downhill a few season's back and got repetitive. Leary will be in another show soon as an alcoholic EMT, this following his ABC show where he was an alcoholic cop, Uncle Teddy was his partner.

All in all I was very happy with the ending. I thought it was fitting and it was a good way for a great show to go out. So many shows when they end tend to fall short, but I think this one delivered.

I want to start watching it again, I've only watched like the first two seasons.

I've seen them all. The first 3-4 season are amazing. It kind of starts to drag a little bit in seasons 5 and 6. They are still good and it is still better thank 90% of the stuff on TV, but you could tell they were in that spot where they weren't sure how long they were going to be on the air so they have some filler in there. Then it seemed to find itself again this season.

I was a big fan and glad to see that they got to end it how they wanted and not with just a cancellation.

Looks like I'll have to watch this season and the finale. I gave up mid last season because it had jumped the shark so badly.
