Whos been to Jamaica?
Just got back from the Bahama's with a buddy of mine and now he wants to head down to Jamaica in December. Said it's a hell of a lot cheaper than the Bahama's. I'll be booking my flight to Montego Bay soon.
Any insight or tips for Jamaica? How was it? :helpme |
Don't bring your girl. Not because of cheating or anything, just she will get harassed by a lot of Jamaican guys. Could get old.. .

My family vacationed there a few summers when I was younger. We'd stay at Jack Tar Village which now that I'm looking for a link to show, has apparently closed lol.
Don't have any experience since I haven't gone back as an adult, but from what I know if you want to drink it's a good place as you can walk around the streets with a beer in your hand and not get hassled, and if you're looking for touristy stuff to do there's plenty of that as well. Climb Dunn's River Falls. http://www.jamaica-tour.com/dunn-riv...ls-jamaica.htm |
Yeah, Montego Bay is probably safest. Negril is a bit shadier.

I took a curse there 2x, didn't go out of the gates. A lot of nut balls over there.. If i was alone i would venture out, but when your with pretty white girls everyone get's freaked out! Go visit the Philippines man, that place is the shit in my opinion! :)

used to like it, now its always a bunch of shit, guys trying to hook you up with weed etc....... I just wanted to be left alone do my thing , but not always possible:2 cents:

Don't smoke weed there. Oddly enough there was a Locked Up Abroad about Jamaica, and apparently they are WAY strict on weed, even though their reputation would suggest otherwise...

Jamaica was good in our little resort area. I wouldn't venture off into the towns, so I don't know about that. It was hotter and MUCH more humid than florida, but the water is great where I was.

theres places better than jamaica in the vicinity

In the resorts just talk to the bartenders, they provide ganja, shrooms and bl0w all day.

I was diving there last summer. I'd advise to just stay on your resort, the locals cant harass you there.

i went few years ago nice place great people a bit scary when a gun fight started when we were sat out side of burger king the first time we went out of the hotel id still go again i love Jamaica

I spent a week in Jamaica three years ago. Stayed at the resort Gran Bahia Principe, and it was a very nice, 5 star facility. It was relaxing, but the fact that everyone at the resort pesters you to buy weed from them, got old fast. You can't even go to the pool without being asked 2 or 3 times.
Safety wise, we (group of 7 guys) didn't have any problems, however while we were there one of the security guards that mans the enterance was shot. We didn't hear about it till 3 days after when our room service guy asked us if we heard the shots. We ventured into ocho rios to hit up a club called Margaretaville, and while the club was safe inside, the outside was sketch as fuck. After all is said and done, I would go back. But that is because I perfer to smoke over drinking, and with any other island nation, like cuba, it's much more risky to blaze. As for the prices of weed, like everywhere, you'll get a better deal if you buy larger quantities. Don't pay more then $200 for a Quarter Pound. |
no man, don't be that tourist that stays in the resort all vacation long...a waste is you don't see the real Jamaica, just don't go to unsafe places...
just act tranquillo and go out! |
It's a shithole as far as I saw. My friends got married at a resort there 2 years ago I think it was. Tons of big black guys follow you around trying to sell you weed its annoying as fuck. Pretty cheap and if you just stay in the big resorts its probably ok but even the gardners try and sell you drugs. Don't bother going to the touristy fucking shops or restaurants though just all scams

Resorts are usually the last thing on my mind. I backpacked through Thailand a few years ago, and experienced so much that a regular tourist never would have. |
I have been about six times and loved Jamaica.. only been to Hedo though...
but we are headed back down in December! |

Jamaica is a fun place to visit just be careful in the non tourist areas.

My wife is half Jamaican. There is a huge difference in the resorts and tourist traps versus the places the locals go, especially regarding the food. If you enjoy different foods, get out away from the tourist spots.
Duke said the service is slow. Everything is slow. It's called island time. It's the opposite of the hustle and bustle of New York, of hitting the gas to speed to the next red light. 3:00 means between 3:00 and 6:00. It's about being mellow, chilling out, relaxing. You don't have an important meeting scheduled for 10 minutes after lunch, so chill, breath, and enjoy your cocktail. |
I haven't :pimp

My friend said his wife had gone to the West Indies alone....
I asked 'What? Jamaica?' He replied... No. She went on her own accord !!! Bum-Ta-Ching!!! |
We stayed at the Ritz-Carlton in Montego Bay for our honeymoon...simply excellent!
http://www.ritzcarlton.com/en/Proper...ca/Default.htm . Fantastic food, service, beach and all that was needed. However when we ventured out of the resort to see real Jamaica you could see that it's a third world country but a beautiful one. |
