Whether you like it or not Facebook is defining social networking right now and they aren't showing signs of slowing down. Features and UI design they push out serve to train the masses because their reach is gigantic; the biggest... in fact.

It's foolish to dismiss Facebook, especially so whimsically. I can immediately think of new ways to structure a members' area that would make finding content much easier. The UI for Timeline is very, very nice. It's executed on a level you would expect from a multibillion dollar tech company...

I actually like to use gfy to spread useless information about the lives no one really cares about. It is too difficult to find things on facebook and there are constantly moving buttons and hiding features. I dont even know where to find the friends link anymore when I am stalking my son's female classmates;

Timeline is the logical next step for personal profiles, but the question is, do people really care? Or is it basically just one more way to waste shitload of time for nothing.

MySpace did that too. The reason people moved to FB is the same reason they went to other social networks: because people they know did and they mindlessly followed. It's the only reason.

As for jealousy, some people probably are jealous of the success of FB, but what's more pointless, being jealous of a company you don't own, or jerking off about the great new features of a company you don't own?

Personally I don't see any reason to be jealous; there are plenty of successful companies I could be jealous of if I wanted to. I just don't understand the point of social networks.

If people want to waste time 'tagging' photos and pretending to be a farmer, that's cool. It's a bit like any 'cult', I don't care about people doing it, it's just mildly irritating seeing it everywhere and/or being lectured about how amazing it is.

You'll have to explain to me exactly which sentence you're talking about that seems to you like it wasn't objective and was clouded by Big == Good.

Honestly, I've never been a Facebook fan and I can't stand Zuckerberg; I think he's a tool, should have cashed out at the $100B offer from MS, and he can't speak in front of an audience worth a crap... he's so broken and ?nervous? that he's almost incomprehensible. He's full of awkward pauses waiting for a laugh or applause that never comes because people are still trying to understand wtf he's talking about, lol.

That being said, in the world of the Internet, Big == Good. I mean, if you want to make cash anyway. Additionally when you're talking about the biggest site on the Internet you inherently include solving the world's largest scaleability problems. And that, in and of itself, is no easy feat.

However what I'm pointing out has nothing to do with big and everything to do with the design and the UI. The Timeline interface represents a new way to display a LOT of chronological data in a way that even the dumbest Internet user will be able to use. Browsing to find past events is really, really simple. Regardless of who created it, it's worth taking a look at. Like I mentioned before, I can envision an awesome members' area to a pay site laid out similar to Timeline. A visual browsing experience that would keep track of what you have and haven't seen as well as allow users to more easily find older but still appealing content. A system like that, which Facebook will soon be training the world how to use, should translate to higher rebill rates across the board...

Nearly every adult site content area is nothing but a glorified gallery; in the same format as a plethora of other sites (mostly due to lack of custom sites and a large number of sites built on exiting third party adult CMSs).
