Excuse my newb questions - Are those pics taken with a standard - but expensive - camera?

Or is it 2 or more pics taken with different settings and then joined together - The sharpness of the trees compared to the house is amazing and set just right?

Or is it PS jiggery pokery?

You're referring to HDR (high dynamic range) - the blending of several frames with bracketed exposures. No, the shots above aren't HDR.

They were shot with a Nikon d80 - Nikkor 18-200mm lens. Not sure what you consider "standard" or "expensive", though...it's all relative.

The sharpness relies on a combination of the way I focus during the shots, and a variety of selective tweaking methods later in post-edit.

Aye'o Uno - a few, yeah. We shot an abandoned prison for the criminally insane a while back...big ass limestone fortress of a place.

btw - the old brickyards is now totally rehabilitated, in case you hadn't heard. We shot the place not long ago during the renovation.
