Anyone here ever hear of the funding platform called "Kickstarter?"
I found a link to some people trying to raise money to manufacture a really cool iPad paintbrush on a site called Kickstarter. Looks like Kickstarter is a way to get "pledges" to fund creative projects. You are not really investing but by pledging you get some of the products they are trying to build as a thank you. Looks like a pretty neat platform done well.
Here's the iPad paintbrush link that led me to it. http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/...ce-on-your-ipa |
been around for awhile now, plenty of people raising money for their projects on there.

it a fantastic way for independent musicians to get funding for an album or a single it actually part of the course i teach on how to leverage bit torrent for musicians. done right you basically pre-sell the creation of the album get all the money you need for the song/album |
Yep.
Movie I worked on a month or so ago raised $25k in 2 weeks. This gave them the funds to rent a film camera and buy film instead of doing things digital. They're film geeks so that was important to them. |

Freddie Wong just used this and raised 75k in 24 hours...

Interesting concept. Maybe a site should do this to help people with addictions. Partner up with NGO's the world over and publish verifiable results. Crowdsourced LIFE TRANSFORMATION through drug intervention, life counseling, and transformation. Make it a mix of both faith-based and secular transformation providers.
I'd donate money for that. Drugs and what it represents truly destroy lives and everyone is harmed. If you don't think it isn't reaching you, it probably is, you're just not aware of the form. |

I've funded a few projects on Kickstarter. It's currently one of my favorite sites on the web. So many projects being funded, so many people livin' their dream. Good stuff.
This is old but you get the point, "Dollars Pledged by Month (April 2009 - March 2011)": http://s3.amazonaws.com/ksr/datas/10...jpg?1308595229 |
Do they actually get the $$? There are quite a few pretty "weak" projects on there that are raising ridiculous amounts of money...

the product is the goal not any money back. kickstarter replace the advance that a musician gets for making the mp3, they don't have to give the "record company" 90% of the profits for it. and just using the techniques that pirates use to monetize content, you can make more than enough money to cover the 10% (less because production costs are deducted from that 10% BTW) royalty payments. |

robbie claimed that he talked to the pussy cash guys and they told him "i never sent a single sale ever" when agreed to bet him on that statement, my right to be hear (i would leave forever) vs his content being put in the public domain. He backed down like a little bitch and refused to take the bet. Hell i even offered to give you guys the solution if robbie agreed to put his shit in the public domain if he used it. again he refused to take that offer, for someone who claims what i would show you would never work that insane, who in their right mind would ever use something that would not work. the only reason not to take the bet is because you know i am right. |
I have participated in funding two albums on kickstarter. Usually you get a copy of the album signed by the artist or something like that. If they are responsible, they send you updates on how the project is going and raw samples, etc. That is pretty cool. Some of the stuff is dumb but some of it is really good. Kickstarter spams the shit out of you though.

there are some awesome things on kickstarter and some very crappy stuff as well... I can spend hours on that site :)

Cool site, considering the unemployment rate good chance for the creative minded unemployed to brainstorm and create something interesting since they have the time to do so.

creator of textfiles.com added a kickstarter 3 days ago and has raised more than $70,000 in those 3 days

The company in my first post has already blown past their goal. Good for them.
I found this other company who put out an iPod Nano watchband that I've seen all over the web that smoked the hell out of their goal by a mile. http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/...-kits?ref=live |
