Mainstream card banging - worse than adult.
I just got a magazine int he mail from my gym, I was about to toss it in the trash when I noticed a note stapled to the front of it letting me know this was my 3rd free issue (first one I'd seen) and that if I didn't return the postcard letting them know not to send me more that I would start getting billed for the subscription for not "opting out".
I called them and told them I would be cancelling my gym membership immediately and filing a complaint with the FTC if they ever tried any of that shit again. They explained that I had agreed to them pulling shit like this when I signed up for my gym membership. I wonder what would happen if major porn sites out there started letting their customers know that since they are now on their 3rd month of a free membership to a site they never heard of and never visited that they will start getting billed if they do not specifically cancel. I mean, yeah some do exactly that in various ways but its usually taken care of at the time of signup. I've been with this gym for 4 months now. I can't believe this is legal, I got thousands of paid subscribers over the years to my pay-sites, I guess if I ever wanted to buy a new house with cash I could sign them all up for various sites and send them snail mail letting them know they might want to opt out. |
call the newspaper. they really do like stories like that. I bet tons of people toss the mag in the trash like you almost did.

I already bitched at the lady on the phone. She had her comeback ready so fast it sounded like she had been practicing.
Also I bitched on this board. All bitched out for today. |

they probably saw how much you bench pressed and thought you would be an easy mark.. i would recommend you get a personal trainer and try to bulk up a bit and you wont get treated like such a punk... :thumbsup . |
That's stunning that they are allowed to do that. They can't make it so that you have to opt out to avoid being billed; You have to agree first.
About a year ago Rolling Stone started sending me their magazine out of the clear blue for no reason - I didn't ask for it. No clue where they got my address, but whatever. Seems they gave me their magazine for one year for free, and now they want me to buy a subscription. I thought that was cool really - they gave me a year for free, and then they asked if I wanted a subscription. I also hate people who toss their advertisements in my fucking driveway. We have a company locally where companies buy ads from this company, and they print them in bulk and toss it into your driveway once a month like it's a newspaper. Pisses me off. |
what gym is it? GOLDS GYM or fitness 24?

Mainstream is nasty, but it's such a broad market that people don't often associate one bad experience to everything they buy mainstream.
Not the case with adult, talk to people who've bought an adult subscription and then been banged. They will likely NEVER buy another subscription to an adult website, period. Bad billing practices hurt this industry like no other IMO. |
Credit cards and adult went wrong in 1997 when that American dude running a few of the first paysites recharged ten-thousands of cards, got a few millions and ran off to Brazil. Was he ever caught by the way?
It's after this incident that the credit card companies got very paranoid about adult processing. |
At least it wasn't Bally Total Fitness. That place is like the Mafia, you're in for life, good luck trying to cancel.
|
Yeah the only thing I paid close attention to when I signed up is making sure there was no contract, I could cancel whenever I wanted. They made that clear but evidently there was other stuff I was not aware of.
I don't read many EULA's or TOS's. I guess a lot of people don't. I guess maybe I should start but there are so many and they are so goddamn long and boring. |
