Saudi woman to be lashed for defying driving ban
A court in Saudi Arabia has sentenced a woman to 10 lashes for breaking the country's ban on female drivers.
The woman, identified only as Shema, was found guilty of driving in Jeddah in July. Women2drive, which campaigns for women to be allowed to drive in Saudi Arabia, says she has already lodged an appeal. In recent months, scores of women have driven vehicles in Saudi cities in an effort to put pressure on the monarchy to change the law. The sentence comes two days after the Saudi leader King Abdullah announced women would be allowed to vote for the first time in 2015. Two other women are due to appear in court later this year on similar charges, correspondents say. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-15079620 |
Good. She knowingly broke the law. She must be punished.

Not beheaded, only lashes?
Wow, now that IS surprising. |
My best friend's father was in the Navy, and in the 1970s they were stationed in Iran - the entire family. Seems his mother had to run off to pick off one of the kids at school, not thinking that it's illegal for women to drive there. Seems they had no idea what to do with her when they caught her driving...

I can't imagine being an American woman stationed there... either because of a spouse or because of enlistment. Wow, the amount of rage I'd feel at having to put up with those backwards rules would be pretty fucking hard to take.

It's OK, Obama is President now. He's not interested in Oil like that mean old Mr Bush. Surely he'll start telling the Saudi's to start respecting women and human rights.
Or not... HAHAHAHAHAHA!! Hope and Change Bitches! |
Can't be much worse drivers than the men
|
Saudi Arabia is so mothafuckin backwards lol
My (hot and super white) friend grew up there, and while she loved it (for whatever reasons) she told me how if you are white, and driving a car, and an accident happens... ITS YOUR FAULT. Doubt I'll ever check it out there. |

Hillary Clinton is awesome when it comes to pushing for women's rights. Hate her if you want, but she is on it.
http://www.businessweek.com/news/201...ic-growth.html It scares me that women are still treated like this around the world. It makes me glad I am in the US. |

They get the vote in 2015? Oh, how generous. God, these fuckwads make me ill. Someone should just string them up by their balls. If they are so right, Allah will save them.

Wish we had the same law here for women text/talking on cell phones. I'll bet 75% of the women I see aren't paying proper attention to the road.
. |
The laws should be applied across the whole world :1orglaugh
