(CBS/KPHO/AP) PHOENIX - Phoenix-based TV pitchman Donald Lapre, who was charged with running a nationwide scheme to sell essentially worthless Internet-based businesses, was found dead in his jail cell Sunday morning, according to authorities.

Damn, guess scamming all those people finally caught up to his conscience :2 cents:

i almost bought that shit lol.

Shame for his kids that he killed himself. From what I read, it looked like he could have got off with as little as 5 years in prison, probably less for good behaviour, then pay a whole bunch of fines. From the looks of his properties I'm sure he could have handled the fines.

He could have at least tried to defend himself, and if he got the max sentence of 25 years then maybe hanging yourself would be the correct choice. But obviously he had some other mental issues to do what he did.

I'm going to wager it's because he's a pussy and feared decades in jail. He could give two shits about the people he ripped off ... people with a conscience don't scam in the first place ... also good to remember when dealing in the adult industry.

L-Pink 10-03-2011 08:25 PM

Now that's justice.

Interestingly enough, in some forums I check out, the AM version of this guy are considered HEROES only until they go to jail. Then they are vilified and mocked and people rally around the next wunderkind.

Morality is quite a rubbery concept ... to some.

Play fair, play safe, and live long, brethren.

blackmonsters 10-03-2011 08:53 PM

How can you tell if a guy in a commercial is lying?

His mouth is moving.

"On June 27, 2011, Lapre was arrested at a Lifetime Fitness location in Tempe, Arizona, with serious self-inflicted knife wounds to his groin, and had reportedly lived in the Lifetime Fitness location for 2 days.[15]"

Being in the porn biz as long as I have, I was often up at 4AM to watch these crapy infomercials. This tinny ad guy always made me laugh with his “It’s so easy!!!!” line. He would say it over and over again… looking into the camera… “what are you waiting for?" “It’s so easy!!!!”

Then there was the 2 midgets in white suits that were selling real-estate together, as a tag team, anyone remember those 2 guys? Are they also in jail, together in black and white suits now no doubt.

Then there was the Chinese dude with the boat that claimed to have mad millions with his ‘special system’ , he would tell you this all while cursing around on a boat with 7 hot bikini clad babes rolling over the boats bow wow. I sure hope this guys been deported back to Cambodia where he belonged.

riiight riight mr. bottom tooth

quick look shows the dude wasn't arrested at the health fitness, he was arrested 'in the area' while 'trying to get away' with family in a car

odd they'd call that a suicide

When they arrested him in June he was hiding out in the locker room area of the gym and had a gash near his groin area, it was suspected at that time he was trying to slice his femoral artery. When they found him dead early Sunday morning in jail there was a large pool of blood, it appears he was able to obtain something sharp that he used to cut himself and bleed to death. I haven't read anything that would suggest it wasn't suicide. Sounds like he routinely took anti depressants which got taken away from him once he was incarcerated.

I have no idea what you are implying. From what I know of the situation he tried to kill himself twice and succeeded the second time.

What a shit tard.... Is it really that hard to scam people and then leave the country with all of your money? He could have invested a large chunk of it and lived off of it in a 3rd world country...

wehateporn 10-04-2011 05:23 PM

It's dangerous to get in the way of Big Pharma and their plan to ban Vitamins. Big Pharma want Vitamins banned so as more of us get sick and then their profits go up. Donald needed to be taken care of.

Yea right. The guy was looking at serious time and was financially indigent due to govt forfeiture and only then does big pharma decide to send a hit squad after him....in jail nonetheless. :1orglaugh

The FDA/Big Pharma have been unofficially after him for a long time, in 2005 it became official. If you study similar cases you'll see they try to find an excuse to send the target to jail. To kill them you pretend it's suicide as then there's no further investigation.

------------------- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Don_Lapre
In 2005, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) warned Lapre about claims his vitamins were intended as a drug for diseases such as diabetes, stroke, heart disease, insomnia, cancer, and arthritis. The FDA stated "Your products are not generally recognized as safe and effective for the above referenced conditions." In 2006 the FDA again warned Lapre about untruthful claims.[6] By January 2008, Lapre's The Greatest Vitamin in the World websites were no longer functioning.[7]

If he had been marketing Viagra or Propecia he'd still be alive today; and more wealthy than ever

I think if you read what he says here, www.donlapre.com it appears he genuinely thought there was nothing wrong with what he was doing.

Setting aside Don's exaggerated claims of his vitamins, what really got him in hot water was auto billing customers even after they had cancelled. I figured you'd be the one to put the gov conspiracy spin on his incarceration and death. Long before his arrest he had been on anti depressants and had previous suicide attempts.
