Credit Card Age Verification
 

While browsing some site i sometimes notice that some adult site gives free membership but needs to verify your age by the use of your cc.
What is the catch of this??
Is this legit or just a big scam for the surfer??
and if so how does they profit on this? one dollar refundable verification?
or a misleading message to a trial subscription so surfer wont bother canceling the trial so it can recurs

That's pretty 90's but usually you get into a light version of the site with the "verification" and then they auto-bill you for a full membership after some period of time if you don't cancel.

I'd say it is although it's usually spelled out in fine print what you're agreeing to. I'd think most surfers are pretty savvy to that anyways.

It's a way to qualify traffic that has a cc, more valuable than general traffic, you know these people have one and are willing to take it out of the wallet, first step to having them pay.

But credit card companies started making cards for minors and put a stop to the credit card as adult verification rationale years ago
