I'm happy that I sold my AF100 and am curious about this Sony cam.

By the way those who worry about focussing with shallow DOF... these cams have a focus distance indicator on the LCD screen.

Spunky 10-07-2011 05:37 PM

That looks pretty sweet

Grapesoda 10-07-2011 05:46 PM

pretty nice for sure 10K and 8K for the lens

Chosen 10-08-2011 02:58 AM

I've expected to see some hot girls here...

martinsc 10-08-2011 03:14 AM

that's some hot gear! :thumbsup

EukerVoorn 10-08-2011 08:57 AM

This one is even nicer, but also 5 times as expensive, it's the German answer to the American RED cams and it actually SHIPS lol:

If my sales would be a little bit better I would definitely buy this thing, if you compare sample footage of all available cams on www.vimeo.com the Alexa absolutely looks best. It has great light dynamic range which means you can have a clear sky on the backgroud without clipping it to white so fast as with small sensor cams.

I don't believe in 3D, its a hype that keeps coming back for almost 100 years now and it will disappear again soon. The real 3D that is acceptable for the big audience and is comfortable is working with shallow depth of field, this is how our own eyes work as well. Who's going to jerk off with cardboard 3D glasses on his nose?

I'll make the decision early next year... either the cheap Sony or the Alexa. It's like having to chose between a Honda Civic and a Chevrolet Camaro :1orglaugh

PS so it costs about 50,000 euro ($38000) and that's without the lens. I think this zoomlens costs at least another 10,000 euro.

Cherry7 10-08-2011 02:22 PM

You can get a Sony camera with the same sensor for half the price of a F3 a little cheaper than the EX1.

This cameras will have the shallow focus of professional feature films but the size of the lenses and having to change lenses will slow down production as it increases creativity.

In the end I was surprised to see the data is the same as the Sony EX1 which I still think is a really nice camera as it comes with a light weight 13:1 zoom.

thickcash_amo 10-08-2011 06:14 PM

I was expecting something different

candyflip 10-08-2011 06:31 PM

I'm about 45 days from receiving my Sony FS100.

midnightio 10-08-2011 07:03 PM

$50,000 euros = $66,955.00 US dollars

junction 10-08-2011 07:13 PM

Since I'm not a photog, the cam does nothing for me. Now, show me some pics of a sweet latina babe, or damn near anything from latin teen cash, and that's what makes my dick hard and leaking forejuices

Which half priced Sony cam are you talking about? And I don't get the size of lenses comment, for these cams you can get zoomlenses as well, the only reason people use primes is because they are faster (meaning you can go up to f1.4) and have slightly better image quality. And whether you need a zoom or change lenses depends on how you work, I've been working with primes for one year now and really like it.

Yup thanks for the correction :)

I WISH my calculation was right because all my members (worldwide) pay in USD. I would love to see it go sky high again :) It's doing quite well at the moment though:

Sony FS100.

Size of the lens.... The size of a 10:1 zoom lens will make the camera very heavy and difficult to operate. The focus becomes more critical and so a camera assistant is needed.

As the quality improves so the expertise of the crew has grow to exploit the new possibilities.

The Sony EX1 with its very good 13:1 zoom produces the same quality images with a smaller and easy camera to operate.

The large format cameras have a greater potential but will need more time, crew and money.:2 cents:

EukerVoorn 10-09-2011 03:30 AM

Ok thanks for explaining, now I get it. But balancing a camera in your rig really helps and a zoomlens put at 50mm doesn't have more critical focussing than a 50mm prime, on the contrary, zoomlenses are usually slower (smaller aperture) than primes so your DOF is larger. And I've been shooting with DSLR video for 2 years now, including the AF100 but went back to the tiny cute GH2 and sometimes the 7D. I don't only use DSLR for shallow DOF but also for other advantages in image quality. I don't agree that the EX1 has the same quality, but in the end it's a matter of taste. It's just great that us camera people are getting a wide range of camera types to choose from and that camera's are getting relatively cheaper. My first Hi8 cam was more expensive than an FS100, editing was a pain the ass (had to rent Betacam editing suites because home editing on S-VHS really produced a crap mastertape) and even edited on Betacam I can't look at the footage anymore without getting dizzy :)
Wish porn models evolved as fast as cameras do! :)

That didn't made me erect at all.
