This is fucked! My wife's ex causing problems

So a few days ago last week my wife gets a text from her ex; they've been broken up over 5 years but every once in a while sends a message or something to try and "win her back." :1orglaugh

This time its because she has been receiving letters from the state regarding a previous years tax return when she lived with him years ago. For some reason the fucktards at the local office never updated her address, although she moved a number of times between then and now.

Instead of his ass writing "does not live here" or "return to sender" like a normal half wit idiot does, he OPENS the mail and reads it. The last one was sent to him in early September stating they needed a response from her in 10 days or they would issue an arrest warrant. He waits well past the 10 days and sends her a message about it, then mails her the letter that he opened.

Now she has to pay all sorts of fines and penalties because she didnt respond (how could she if she didnt get the letters??) and on top of that, have to dig up old tax returns to prove she is still not living there.

Fucking broke ass city trying to scrounge up every penny they can, but now I'm out near $300 for this because her ex dickhead decides not to return mail.

Think its worth pursing anything against him? As far as I know, its a federal offense to open someone else's mail right?

Did she not notify the city of her new address?

Im not sure, but assuming that she didn't, she still setup a forwarding address to her new place. But I'm guessing the lack of her not doing so, she doesn't recall if she did or not, leads me to believe that she only put in a change of address form at the post office.

I'm guessing that only lasts for so long then her ex decided just to start opening her mail and reading it :1orglaugh

getting married is an insane idea :2 cents:

to be fair , wifey should have had her address changed. even if he returned it they(irs) wouldn't have just been able to deliver it to new address unless she told them so she wouldn't have gotten it anyways..

he didn't help things ..

If your wife really wanted to avoid drama she would change her phone number and make sure her ex does not ever get it. Have the old number go to a voicemail for a few months so she does not miss any important calls. Problems solved. But of course so many women feed off drama so they will never do what is needed to rid it from their lives.

Might, or might not be the case here, but you are spot on with that comment.

I know some women who live for shit like this. Fucked in the head all of them. Of course, it's usually the guy who loses out. As is the case here...

She can just call the phone company and have his number blocked, repeat as necessary.

if she did, she would of never received a text from him regarding this letter... instead of him of course forwarding the mail back

I gotcha. she never responds, just says "omg look who just sent me a message" then deletes the text

Imortyl Pussycat 10-10-2011 02:27 PM

if she can prove that her mail was withheld from her/tampered with i'm sure she can at least get some of those penalites waived. i feel for her as i have been down that road myself. i also feel for you and can appreciate the fact that you show patience and understanding while she deals with the nightmare that is her ex.

It's not his responsibility to update her address... tell her to get her shit together and stop creating scenarios for her ex to be involved. Tell her that with a stern voice while pointing to the kitchen... she will automatically start preparing a cup of coffee for you and apologizing. Try it.

yes it is against the law.

Try to make an appeal with them, in some situations if you explain what happened they will remove the fines/interest/penalties if you ready to pay now and had a good reason why you were late.

V_RocKs 10-10-2011 04:31 PM

Outside of $300 being chump change, you can get a decent tax attorney to represent her and they will get them to drop the penalties since she never received the letters. However, that would cost about $2,000 or so for a good one and perhaps $800 for a shitty one.

So if it was something like $8000 in penalties it would be worth it... But not for $300...

Call it a lesson learned. Like when she says she did take her pills every day... You don't trust a woman because they are all bitches and hoes. Every last one and your's is no different.

Always handle shit she should be handling that can potentially cost you money. It's more work, but it saves you money.

yeah you can yet talking to the tax office, but beyond that it's not worth a big fight.
