Paging DWB re: flooding in Thailand

DWB, got the lowdown on what's going on there? Is everyone and his grandmother getting flushed down the Chao Phraya?

Dubya 10-12-2011 02:41 PM

Prisoners at Ayutthaya prison wade in line in a chest-deep flood water to board a bus during an evacuation after flood water hit Ayutthaya province, central Thailand Thursday, Oct. 6, 2011.

Nearly 5,000 prisoners in this province were evacuated to the prisons in nearby provinces of Nonthaburi and Lopburi. Flooding in Ayutthaya, the old Thai capital, could threaten ancient Buddhist temples and have alerted residents there to be ready to evacuate as a tropical storm approaches the region.

I just walked in the door, saw the headline on Yahoo that 2/3 of Thailand was under water, and the first thing that popped into my head was if DWB was ok.

Are you ok DWB?

I've had property flood before, really sucks. The worst part is you helplessly watch the water rise foot by foot.

People in South East Asia are used to this kind of stuff. They sometimes make big news out of it in the Western media, but for us it's just like another typhoon or another flooding. You get used to it quickly.

Darkhorse 10-12-2011 08:47 PM

Wow thats some crazy flooding for sure.

Where I am we haven't been hit to hard but its starting to get very wet for example last night it rained a lot and now we have 10cm of water in the street normally the water is gone within 1-2 hours but now it has nowhere to go. so 10 hours later its still there.
The 2 rivers surrounding the city are more than full and people are being moved from the houses at the banks because they are either flooded or will be soon.

There is a lot more water this year than I have experienced the last 2 years here.

Roald 10-12-2011 08:58 PM

I was in Ayutthaya 7 days ago and the inner city part at that time was ok. They said it would flood the next day though so we left.

At koh mak right now and no flooding here. Going back to Bangkok in 5 days though so Lets hope the airport is ok.

rock-reed 10-12-2011 11:57 PM

Hoping the DWB is okay.

It's fine now but a couple weeks ago it looked like this:

2nd Road in front of 'The Avenue'
http://i413.photobucket.com/albums/p...aya-flood1.jpg

My parking garage filled to the top with water. Four cars got trapped down there.
http://i413.photobucket.com/albums/p...aya-flood2.jpg

Flooded Soi
http://i413.photobucket.com/albums/p...aya-flood3.jpg

That night/day walking street was flooded as well but I couldn't get to it because of the water.

DWB 10-13-2011 06:25 AM

Thanks everyone. All is well.

They say 1/3 of Thailand is flooded. Not sure if that is accurate or not, but there is serious flooding going on.

Apparently, I'm immune to it. When I do finally die, I'm going to give my body to science so they can use it to find a cure.

Yea, we're good where I'm at, minus a lot of on and off rain. We were on holiday up north about a week ago and they had neck high water there in some areas. :helpme

Ayutthaya got HAMMERED. Totally fucked up, as in the city is now a water world. You did the right thing to get out when you did.

This is the worst flooding I've seen here since the late 90's when I started coming. Seen a lot of rain, and some floods, but nothing like the scale of this. And more is on the way.

DWB
Compared to last year when I saw the rivers here going up I made a mental note on where they reached when they at their max and we passed that weeks ago. I were told a month ago that at that time the water levels were at the usual level at the end of the raining season.
I am l going to Mukdahan/Savannakhet next week and expect the roads to be OK but Yasothon seems to have some flooding problems from what I have been able to find out online but we are going Sisaket-> Ubon-> Mukdahan and last time except for 30KM its 2 lanes in each direction and in perfect condition.

Can't beat a visa run I had last year during the raining season in a sedan because the main road were flooded we had to do a detour through a back road which were a red dirt/clay road. Shit I am happy I were not driving if the main road is closed imagine how much traction you would get there.
