BMW i3 - Who wants one of these?

Coming 2013! 2 years to save up, but! How much will it cost?

Who else wants one of these? I hope it looks the same when they do come out.

Not sure if that will make it or not, not sure how the good people in certain "you can't do that" institutes will see them. But they do look pretty neat!

:thumbsup I like the whole design, and being BMW you can pretty much expect it to not only look good but drive well aswell.

Fuel economy looks like a massive improvement on anything out at the moment aswell.

Some cars are already doing 4.7l or 4.8l / 100km

In 2 years 3.8l could be a very achievable number.

djroof 10-14-2011 08:36 AM

super hot ride!

Kenny B! 10-14-2011 08:56 AM

Production cars rarely look like the concepts so I doubt it'll end up looking anything like that

michael.kickass 10-14-2011 09:01 AM

who wouldn't want one of those?

seeric 10-14-2011 09:03 AM

You got your names screwed up. The car you posted is an i8, not an i3.

The i3 will go out at under 40k USD, and is a yippy little electric Prius type car that you'll be laughed at if you drive it.

What you posted is the i8, which is bad ass and costs 157k USD.

Unfortunately it will look nothing like that when it is released.

Ahhh! you are correct sir!

Ok who wants an i8? :1orglaugh

The i3 still looks pretty good in that video I think. Different anyway. Looking forward to seeing where this goes :)

Kiopa_Matt 10-14-2011 09:57 AM

Didn't RoboCop used to drive that?

Well they have kind of stuck their neck out saying coming in 2013.
I know they can and probably will change and tweak things etc.

But most of the time a car company comes up with a concept, they don't say when it is coming out or if it will even get released.

You usually see: Concept. And that is the end of it.

Not: BMW i3 coming 2013.

Anyway, if it looks close enough to the concept it will still look damn nice!

Now THIS is a fucking car...!

I sold my V8 Camaro in September (I usually store it for the winter but decided it was a waste of money). The next car I buy will be electric.

I have driven the Tesla Roadster a couple of times. It's a nice car but its too small for my 6'3" frame. It's also a 2 seater which, even though its designed to be a sports car, and even though its all electric, is just not practical for me at $120,000. It's fast as hell making it FUN, but the cramped space takes some of that fun away.

I since gave up on the electric sports car idea and have been instead looking at the Telsa Model S ($50k) and even the Chevy Volt (also $50k). The Model S is all electric and really nice looking (almost looks like a luxury car) while the Chevy Volt is a semi-compact hybrid. Mind you it's much better than all the other hybrids out there, but still.

The new BMW on the other hand is fucking GORGEOUS. If I was going to get one I would definitely go for the electric-only version. Besides everything else it will easily out perform the hybrid counterpart and be a bazillion times cheaper to run. It is by far the sexiest car I've seen in a very long time. (Plus it reminds me of TRON. Maybe Olivia Wild will want a ride..)

I will never ever buy a fully electric car. Too many problems with them. Everytime I read a review, or there is one on Top Gear they just have soo many downfalls.

Expensive battery packs that don't last, charging takes too long etc.

A Hybrid would be ok, but I will wait for Hydrogen before even thinking of ditching Gas/Petrol/Diesel.

A 100% electric car would be good for local run abouts probably. But that is about where it ends at the moment.

Si 10-14-2011 11:10 AM

Oops, forgot to say, I haven't looked at the Chevy volt yet though.

Going on there now to see what is what.
