Golfers - What you swinging these days? Buying new clubs.
I've outgrown my starter clubs that I've had for 4-5 years. Need some big boy clubs, but I'm not hip on what the real golfers think is good.
I've tried Taylor Made Burners, and Calaway Berthas, etc. I only want to spend like 2k or so. Leaning towards Taylor Made Drivers Cleveland Irons Some specialty rescues, etc. I have a great putter already. http://rollinsd.com/wp-content/uploads/golf01.gif http://www.hereinreality.com/golf/fu...mster_golf.jpg Recommendations? |
I've got the R9 Driver (proper one, not the 460) and an Older Big Bertha (4/5 years old maybe) And I prefer the Big Bertha. Callaway and Taylormade are my 2 favourite makes for golf gear.
I also tried some PING stuff aswell and they have a nice feel. (Wedges and Irons) Really depends what you want I suppose. The R9 is a great driver but I tend to fade it too much with it so I have gone back to the Callaway. Haven't tried the R11 or razr Hawk but they look pretty nice! I've got a mixutre of wedges, can't remember the brands. Golf Pride I think is one of them and that is really nice. Cleveland wedges always seem to be the best rated in magazines etc. I also use a Taylormade rescue dual #3 and they are soo easy to hit and really nice feel. I've got to upgrade my irons, using a starter set myself and I'm looking at one of the following: Callaway Taylormade Ping or, Adams Anything with a stiff graphite shaft and a nice feel is what I'm looking for. Might even try some hybrids or Combo Irons. Best irons I ever tested were Callaway X-20 or X-22 (can't remember the model number) they had a real nice feel though. My Cousin has '09 Burner irons and they feel a little chunky but that might just be me. |
Not sure you can recommend a specific club to any golfer, whats good for me, may suck for you. I know someone that's a pretty good golfer. He bought Ping Raptures for $1300, but they hit really high for him and cost him distance. So while at the driving range, he was talking to the guy there that custom builds clubs, All stuff that I think you can get at www.golfsmith.com, cheap, so he had him make up a 7 iron. He loved it, so the guy built him the rest of the set. Came in at under $250. Says they are the best he's ever swung.
The best thing that you can do is go to your local golf outfitter and swing everything they have in their simulator. Decide on what works best for you, and either buy them there, or get them elsewhere, but at least you will know what you like at that point. |

Ive got cleveland irons and love them. I use a Callaway FT5 driver, it does me well. Whatever feels good in your hands. Test out some nice grips.
