JW Player vs Flowplayer

I use to use Flowplayer religiously and encode my videos into FLVs.

I just switch over to JW Player and now encode my videos into MP4s.

The reason is because JW Player is HTML5 ready.

Which one do you use and why?

Bladewire 10-15-2011 02:42 PM

JW player

Great support, lots of plugins, always expanding, HTML5 ready :thumbsup

blackmonsters 10-15-2011 02:45 PM

Those players are great but you can also try something new.

Try slomoplayer.com

I think they have a plugin for that already.

Their plugin requires that you use Flash media server which most people don't want to
pay for.

Plus it still only has 2 slomo speeds.

:2 cents:

The surfers are looking at the movie, not the player.

Mainstream people love it.
Mainstream is making money, porn is dying.

Go figure.

Well in that case it's always better to go with solution which is verified. There is also open source solution,http://jplayer.org/ ,need to test it

Weren't you selling slo-mo player somewhere recently? Correct me if I'm wrong - I've been wrong before...

I use JW and Flo mostly, plus a few others that I can't keep track of unless I check - and I'm too lazy to do that. I have not been let down by Flow or JW.

Yes.

I'm the Flash programmer that developed the slomo player.

I made it only for myself, but decided to see if other people might want to try it.

I made it because I found the JW player too difficult to do the kind of custom
programming that I wanted.

Here is the original version of the slomoplayer

http://blackmonsters.com/maintv.shtml?asian_59467

I don't sell that version because it's customized and only works with my tube script.

Caligari 10-15-2011 06:03 PM

Slomo player looks pretty good actually, will have to try it out!

EukerVoorn 10-15-2011 06:14 PM

I've been using JW Player on all our sites for year and happy with it. Can't be bothered too much with HTML5 though, if you want to be in compliance with all browsers you need to have 3 different compression formats of all your videos, for example there is a license problem between FF and h264/mp4. So we do mp4 only and if it plays in JW player, fine. If it plays in HTML5 player, fine too.

brassmonkey 10-15-2011 06:36 PM

only jw player

Give it a try.

Download the free version and let it rip.
It's the same as the paid version except you can't put ads in the player and
the "next vid"/"prev vid" buttons are replaced by the logo.

If you see something you think can be improved then please use the support form
and let it rip! If it's possible then I will add it.

KickAssJesse 10-15-2011 11:36 PM

I have been using jw player for a while now, but haven't yet to mess around with flow.

Your are not a potential customer.

I don't think you are interested buying something that you said "Looks like a crap".

All flash players can use lighttpd.

It's not in the programming of the player, the player simply issues the play command
just as normal and the Flash Engine handles the stream.

Everybody must have Flash installed in their browser to use flash players and it's the
flash in the browser that actually handles the video stream.

not saying the player sucks, but the design could use some better improvements.

im guessing you are more of the backend type of flash guy than more of a design aspect of it.

curious how many lines of actionscript is the player?

ruff 10-16-2011 11:50 AM

I like JW Player and am waiting on a program to render videos to html5. I don't think the standard has been settled though so I am still rendering to mp4.

The player has 3026 lines of action script but that includes blank lines and comments.
So the number of lines of code is maybe 2800, I would guess.

It's not the number of lines of code that means something all the time.
Sometimes it takes a lot more time and ingenuity to keep the code small and more
efficient.

Design: I have compliments about the design from mainstream people.
The only complaints I get are from GFYers.

I'll keep trying though. That's the 3rd skin so far.

I actually don't see what is not likeable about the design, so I don't really know
what you are looking for.

HomerSimpson 10-16-2011 05:38 PM

always liked JW more
it was easier to use...

I'm looking at your player now. Looks pretty interesting, especially the slow motion feature.

I wish youtube would have a player like this.
I was just watching a UFC video with a knock out and it was like
"where did that punch come from?"

Downloading the vid from youtube to put it my player works, but geeze, it would
be nice to just click a button on youtube and see it in slomo.

Facial cumshot sites are crazy to not use my player.
The people who surf that stuff all day are serious freaks and slow motion is like gold to them.

BTW : The only reason I made this player is that I simply could not find a player to do this already.
Everything I came across required Flash Media Server to work.
I didn't want to bother with paying for FMS and installing it on my server.
And who is going to have that on shared hosting?

have a look at the youtube api for flash, you can integrate it into your code so you can use the player to play youtube videos.

here are a few examples

That's exactly what I was thinking. Slow motion is definitely something that I think my members would get off on, I know I like it. Just take that Indy 300 crash today, your player would be perfect for viewing that. I'm going to get your player set up on one of my sites tomorrow.

The second I seen him go "blah blah" I could you any thought of ever using that project went out the door. It reminded me of a two year old putting their fingers in their ear going blah blah I can't hear you.

JWPlayer has html5 support. If you use the latest version it automatically falls back to html5 if the user doesn't have a a Flash player installed. So if a user tries to watch the video on an iPhone or iPad it will just stream the video in html5. It works fine with mp4.

Great!

I think your members will like it.

In this tough market I figure offering as much as possible with technology can not hurt
and it has the potential to retain members.

I used to download a video then run it through a video editor to slow it down for
a scene. So I figure other surfers do that too, but now with the player they can
save all that time and effort. Somebody is going to be more satisfied and rebill longer!

Every little bit helps these days.
