Or a huge train crash in India?

Our world has changed and news is instant and constant.
Twenty years ago we gathered around the only TV in the house for a half hour and watched the news. They did a few minutes on local stuff, a few minutes on national stuff, and then a few minutes on international. Toss in a fluff piece, the weather and sports, and that was all they had time for. These days we have 24 hour news channels, and we can see things happening live on the Internet. Don't like the point of view the news is telling you? No problem, go some place else to get your news. (Much to my surprise I've been reading Aljazeera News.) Now the info is too much. We know minute details of every disaster, and frankly it's blunted us. We no longer care as much. |
It isn't hard for me because I travelled to Van 30 years ago.

Cause of the football fans?

Because they are not white???
1 white person is worth 1000 people of color.... Well according to our mainstream media... |
there are lots of deaths and injuries as it shows on tv.., we had an other 2 big earthquaiks yet 12 years ago, but we never learn from lesson i think.
|
its because we care only about big media coverage and good story around it

it's easier to remove yourself of emotion from places you have never been and people you don't know. It's nothing new, it's the reason we are so easily lured into war. What things like the internet and added news coverage (the responsible kind, it is out there) is helping with is it is putting a face to places that we may have never thought of before. There is still a long way to go obviously ;)
Did you know that Turkey houses the location of the city of Troy? The legends of that battle i'm sure were pretty exaggerated through history and the iliad, but without the internet, or some good historical tv shows I may have gone a lifetime never knowing that. I may have gone a lifetime never wanting to go there. |
