Google Analytics' latest move FUCK UP keyword research?

Quick, somebody call Chicken Little. The sky is caving in? Not really but this article makes for interesting reading.

Google announced today they?re going to take a step toward user privacy by hiding keywords used by searchers signed into their Google accounts. We?ll leave the discussion regarding their real reason for doing so for another day or someone else to blog about. Me, I?m going to talk about what I think this means for the industry and why I think so many people that are freaking out over this change are missing the bigger opportunity here.

Yep, I predicted this 6 months ago and was slagged by the usual google ass lickers...but once again I was RIGHT. Same as I was right about Panda when I predicted that 8 months before it happened, same as I was right they would ban cc domains and same as Ill be right they will dump adult from their serps within 2 years.

Go ahead google ass lickers, do your thing, lol.

Google has NEVER been about giving the best results for searches. They have always been about getting paid..

This is called Business !

cooldude7 10-25-2011 07:44 AM

damn we are doomed so does many apps.,

which runs on analytics api, and many trackers....bwahahahaa

cooldude7 10-25-2011 07:49 AM

imho as days goes by Google is turning into real bitch and should bite to dust one day.

e.g.
they started to charge for translate api, adwords api and made adwords api application very fucking hard , needs 3-4 weeks to get approval. motherfuckers.
depreciated many other api.
and now this.

Maybe you will be right about that but dumping adult from google index will be
a great opportunity for someone else.

I can just imagine a 100% adult search engine that took over googles entire adult
index being loaded with traffic. Paid search results would make a lot of sense because
no matter what term is used you know the surfer is looking for porn.

Can you imagine putting your porn ad on the google landing page?
You are seen even before anyone searches!
That would be possible on a pure adult search engine.

That kind of ad space would be gold.

So I'm thinking, why would google just give that away and cause a "traffic drain"
on itself. Millions of searches everyday for porn just given away for some kind of
"moral" reason when nobody is really complaining.

But hey, Paypal dumped adult. But then they got bought out by ebay for $1.5 Billion. Hmmmmmmmm?

"Google announced today they’re going to take a step toward user privacy"

Nope. They are taking a step towards keeping keyword information to themselves and not sharing ;)

porno jew 10-25-2011 09:33 AM

ok still don't totally get this.

so will the search volume numbers in google's keyword research tool be effected?

signupdamnit 10-25-2011 09:37 AM

I hate to be that guy but from a privacy standpoint it makes sense to me. As I understand it this won't just be GA but they are also going to remove the keywords from the referrer when a user is signed in and using SSL, right?

To still get a decent idea of volume per keyword just come up with a multiplier and multiply the keywords you do see to arrive at a decent estimate. Much like how a random sample works.

gene btw i read a thing on forum promotion that may be applicable: if you are continually running into "haters" the problem isn't them, it's you.

This is about money not privacy.

Adwords clients and Google will be the only ones with keyword data.

I'm sure that's just a drop in the bucket compared to what they have in plan for crowdsourced search data. Also, I posted some time ago about their revenues going up due to these "positive changes". The analysts rewarded them well. Expect more of the same "positive changes" in the future
