nice choice, hits the spot tonight here are the first 5 songs (live versions) from my own playlist (my favs) From a great concert New Years Eve 1979 (aka Winterland altho there are several years of Winterland - always confusing with the Dead :) ) that was televised on PBS a while back. I like every version from this concert. Some from this concert were the best versions ever imo. Tough time tho finding songs from it or the actual whole concert. http://www.sqvirtual.com/img/deadwagon.gif :GFYBand shouts from the front row to ADG and CS :thumbsup :smokin :rainfro :cool-as-a :bigears :flagface :firehair :rasta :pimp :anon :liebe028: :glugglug :drinkup :stoned :smilie_we |

I was able to see the Dead play live scores of times mostly because some of my friends were hardcore Deadheads who always had lots of tickets (and lots of drugs, lol), and the Dead played locally a lot in the Bay Area - often for a week at a stretch, especially for New Year's.
My favorite local shows were at Frost Amphitheater (Stanford Univ.), and Shoreline Amphitheater, just because I like dancing outdoors, and the many memorable New Year's shows ("I may be going to hell in a bucket, but at least I'm enjoying the ride"...) - I was at these shows too (I think, hehe): ...and the most epic Dead show I ever attended was the US Festival in '82 - Breakfast in Bed with the Grateful Dead: http://www.dead.net/sites/deadbeta.r...20905_0844.jpg Quote:

Actually in the day the Dead did not get a lot of national air time on AM or FM radio and never really made the charts much so some of us really were not exposed. You have to seek them out I guess. BTW I am still awake, wtf :) i took a nap from 2am to 4am tho :winkwink: Is anyone cooking burritos? :) Isnt that what all us deadheads cook and eat. :) All you need in life is a shower, a fatty, and a big tasty beef burrito with all the southern cali extras. Oh my goodness gracious :rasta extra cheese and onions and heavy on the gauc, hot sauce :) |
Touch of Grey is the ultimate counterculture song and when it blasted across America in 1987 it was fantastic.

Jerry Garcia was a good visual artist in his own right. He was an accomplished painter, and also designed clothes - I have a few Jerry Garcia ties (which I wore during my corporate years).
http://halmasonberg.files.wordpress....cord-dream.jpg http://halmasonberg.files.wordpress....ail-garden.jpg http://halmasonberg.files.wordpress....act-angles.jpg Jerry loved jamming and playing music of various styles... HIGH-ly recommend to check out the Further concert tour...Weir-Lesh and Co, will be doing three nights of shows at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium for New Year's in San Francisco this year - just like the old days, minus a few loved ones, but with a whole mess of 2nd and 3rd generation Deadheads... :) :stoned ADG |

Donna Godchaux http://www.sqvirtual.com/img/donnagodchaux1.jpg here is a c&p from wiki that tells her story in a nutshell --- "Donna was born in Florence, Alabama. Prior to 1970, she had worked as a session singer in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, appearing on songs by Elvis Presley and Cher. She met future fellow Grateful Dead member Keith Godchaux and they married in 1970. Donna introduced Keith to Jerry Garcia after Garcia's performance at San Francisco's Keystone Korner in October 1971. At the time, Donna Jean was not working as a musician. She joined the band shortly afterwards, remaining a member until February 1979. http://www.sqvirtual.com/img/donnagodchaux3.jpg Donna provided back-up and lead vocals in the group's music. During their membership in the Grateful Dead, the couple also issued the mostly self-written Keith and Donna album in 1975 with Jerry Garcia as a Keith and Donna Band member. In turn, they performed as part of the Jerry Garcia Band. Keith and Donna's son, Zion "Rock" Godchaux of BoomBox, was born in 1974. After the Grateful Dead, the couple started the Heart of Gold Band. http://www.sqvirtual.com/img/donnagodchaux2.jpg Donna did not perform again with any Grateful Dead band members until after the death of Jerry Garcia. Shortly after her husband's death in 1980, Donna Jean turned to religion. She married bassist David MacKay (former Fiddleworms member and bassist for Donna Jean Godchaux Band) and the couple moved to Florence, Alabama to work at the Muscle Shoals Sound Studios." http://www.sqvirtual.com/img/donnagodchaux4.jpg http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Donna_Jean_Godchaux http://www.sqvirtual.com/img/donnago...lwithdead2.gif http://www.sqvirtual.com/img/donnago...lwithdead1.gif --- Dark Star Orchestra + The Donna Jean Godchaux Band (Feb 2011) http://www.sqvirtual.com/img/darkstaranddonna.jpg more pics and info http://www.popmatters.com/pm/review/...star-orchestra --- Good morning!
