Just watched "Cliff 'em all" - Wow

So this is the first Metallica DVD dedicated to Cliff Burton - they're bass player they lost in a road accident. He must have been one of the best bass guitar players ever. Bought this DVD years ago but couldn't watch it because of the region crap. Then tonight I discovered I can switch the DVD player in my Asus laptop to another region, and could finally watch this GREAT DVD.

I must have been the first Metallica fan in Holland. One day I was fed up with all metal, walked into a record store and said I wanted something totally new and different. They just received the box with the "Kill 'em all" albums, still standing on the floor. "listen to this" the guy said. So I listened and after hearing 30 seconds I bought the album and played it non-stop at least 300 times.

Thank you America for producing such great musicians like Metallica.

Well Denmark had a it's hand in Metallica as well. Yeah I still remember finding out about Cliff's death and how much it affected me since I listened to their albums morning day and night at that age. Hardly anyone else at my school gave a fuck because Metallica was still kind of unknown.

Haven't thought about that. If you bought St. Anger there, did it come with a DVD like it did here?

I had tix to see Metallica at the time he died, it was rescheduled with Jason Newstedt several months later. It would be hard for me to say Cliff was the best since his career was short. I think Getty Lee of Rush is very good...

Metallica is the best

I liked them when they had Burton but IMO the band started going down hill with Justice for all. It wasn't just the loss of cliff but the music it's self was different from the early albums like ride the lighting, master of puppets & kill em all. Those three albums were pretty awesome, after that they were just not the same sound.

If it had stayed the same people would say "More of the same shit"

Their music matured, but it stayed pretty good.

Yea maybe, I mean I tend to think every Rush or ACDC song sounds the same, but I never like either of them. hehe

While I do agree that maybe their music matured or progressed it just changed to something g I wasn't interested in I guess.

Nope not when I bought it from amazon.co.uk. But with it I ordered "Cunning stunts" a live DVD and that's really awesome. Anyone who didn't see it... go get it, you will really enjoy every minute of it. I also bought the S+M symphonic DVD and that was a bit of a disappointment for me but it might be useful for getting a girl into the proper mood one night because girls like that kind of music.

Also about their music maturing... I still think their first album was their best. The two albums after that were still very good ("bells" and "fade to black" are my fav songs), after that they came with a more commercial album "Justice for all" with their first video clip. After that they went pop and there's nothing wrong with pop but I think so many others are better at it. Then with St Anger then went back to metal but what's missing there IMO is the strong melodies. The first three albums were hard but very melodic at the same time, to me St Anger sounds more like "punk".
