McDonald's Job Applications Dumped On 'Occupy' Protesters By Chicago Board Of Trade

On top of cold weather and logistical pains, "Occupy" protesters in Chicago last week dealt with an embarrassing stunt.

Dozens of photocopied McDonald's job applications were reportedly thrown from the Chicago Board of Trade building and onto Occupy Chicago protestors earlier this week, according to Chicagoist (h/t Mediaite).

In April, McDonald's announced plans to hire 50,000 new employees in a single day. The fast food giant was subsequently flooded with more than one million applications, a McDonald's spokeswoman told HuffPost in April. As of October, there are officially 13.9 million unemployed people in America today

And with that big $7.25 an hour they'll be making, next move will be to drop 22% APR credit card applications on them! pre-approved! :1orglaugh

The economy will be fixed in no time!

They call it the American Dream, because it is actually a fantasy.

We look down on fast food thinking it's the bottom of the bottom, but any job is really what you make out of it. You start a job, and no matter how crappy it is you have the chance to move up the ranks. We bitch about the 1%, but the 1% started the same way - at the bottom.

I worked in fast food for seven years. I was making $70k a year at the damn phone company, and still worked fast food at the phone company. Because it was fun - and a great way to meet chicks. In fact, that's exactly how I met my wife.

Americans seem to think that they are due something because they are Americans. Everyone starts at the bottom. And when you get knocked off your horse, you start back at the bottom.

That's true.

One thing people should realize though when they shout out "Go Work at McDonald's" is
that there is not always a job at McDonalds. They have way more applicants than
they will ever need.

When I was a teen, It took me almost a year to finally get hired at McDonald's and
it was at one that was on the other side of town. And I got the job because I had
the "inside scoop". The manager was a former classmate of my older brother!

McD's doesn't "give away jobs", people have to get in line and hope the get hired.

OWS people that do not have jobs, do not want to work. They do not want to make the 1% richer to spend it on and control politics. I am not saying they are right, just what they have told me.

If they wanted jobs, there are Plenty of them out there. Stop with the $7.25 an hour crap. $7.25 is better than Zero, but hey why work for $7.25 when you can sit home and get stuff for free.

L-Pink 11-06-2011 09:30 AM

Your average person isn't even qualified to run a McDonalds. That's a sad fact.

Maybe not, but I'm guessing at some point in time they have some fast food experience. Somewhere along the line you have to have some kind business management experience - and then have desire to put everything on the line and go and get loan. And that's just the fucking beginning - just because you own a franchise doesn't mean you sit at home and collect checks. Now you have to work 10 and 12 hours a day to watch over your investment and make sure your not getting robbed blind by your employees.

Years ago someone I know noticed that a Subway sandwich shop right off base was always packed. He got out of the Marines and bought that sandwich shop. Me, I got out of the Marines and... Worked for a Subway sandwich shop. See the difference? Both of us at the same place in life, I got a job and he created a business for himself.

That's the American dream. If you want it bad enough, you put in the effort and you are rewarded. Or you can camp out in city parks. Your choice.

True for those who are small timers. But aren't the majority owned by companies/groups that own dozens (or even hundreds) of franchises? Those people just dump money into it and hire others to handle everything.

First you have to have money to buy a subway joint.

yes because owning a business is just as easy as "dumping money into it and hire others to handle everything".

when you have multi millions in capital there are much more profitable things you can do be doing that hanging around a subway making sure the sammiches are made right.

yes because people who are millionaires just "dump money" into businesses. dont you think they got there because they DO CARE if the sandwiches are made right?

your "care free" attitude about business is laughable to me. it is completely clueless and makes things sound "easy" when it is far from the case.

You didn't read this correctly, or I didn't write it clear.
I am saying kinda what you are. Most here have Jobs, the ones that don't do not want jobs, trust me I have talked to them every week.

The ones with jobs have to live and support families, but hate that they are making someone else rich, thus the money going into politics. It is kind of a catch 22, we all can't be rich, or own a business.

Again, I am not saying it is right, just what the message they are telling me.

The main point they have is get money out of politics...

Well, they ARE shiftless, jobless lowlifes who have paid zero or very little taxes and want everything handed to them. So........who gives a fuck what they remember?

What are they they going to do? Not go to work? Not pay taxes?

McDonald's is always hiring since they are looking for better employees to work for them. If I go to South Yonkers, NY they barely speak English and act like I am the foreigner. So now I just point at the value meals...and act like a mute.

My best experience in McDonald's was at the airport in Japan, were they serve you with a big smile and the food was hot and fresh tasting. No matter how low of a job you have in Japan they take pride in it and will do their best not to feel shamed.

My mother and her 7 siblings lived in the basement of a SHACK in the Philippines. They were so broke they couldn't even afford the land they were on. They were too late to squat. They had to RENT from squatters. When typhoon season came, they had to sleep on boxes piled on top of each other so the water won't reach them. All my aunts and uncles (on my mother's side) had to eat one cup of rice PER DAY. That's all they had. My mom worked hard (she started work at the age of 10 at a crayon factory) to put herself and the next 2 oldest siblings through school. The 3 of them then supported the rest. My aunt got to the US through graduate school and got her green card in the 60s. She then petitioned my grandfather and he got all his kids (including my mom) to the US.

My mom and Dad started in the US with nothing. They lived in the hood but not a day passed where they didn't feel thankful for the opportunity. My parents went on to own several houses and several cars but always dressed and carried themselves humbly.

That's the fighting spirit and the GREATEST LEGACY I inherited from my parents: it doesn't matter what you start with, what matters is what you FINISH with. God gave us all native abilities and talents. We can't all be the Michael Jordans of life. Still, it is YOUR JOB to turn whatever was given you (even if it is just one talent) and multiply it. We are the stewards of our lives and are responsible for ourselves.

Phoenix 11-06-2011 05:45 PM

That is the problem, there is no PLAN. They can't even get a good voice out there on what they want, and when a list comes out, they add a ton of BS demands to please all protesters.

I guess "Hope and Pray" or Hope and change? LOL

How I see it, they believe that if they block enough stuff and business, that the Gov will give in to their demands, and just pass laws.

So kinda like a hostage situation I guess...

I question how much they want it. And/or how smart they are. Not everybody is intelligent enough to keep up or move ahead.

Life is hard, I'm struggling, your struggling. Most of us are working twice as hard to make 1/2 as much. But we'll still pull through.

I can't be responsible for the people who might not be quite as anal when it comes to work ethic. Or who might not be quite as clever.
I hope that conditions in our world will be that they can have a chance to go as far as they can with whatever abilities they have. Just like I do. Just like you do.

People that "want a decent check" are worker bees. When the shit hits the fan they are the first to pay the price and get fired. My Grandpa always told me to NEVER work for anyone else and that if I wanted to make real money to do something I loved. He was 100% right.

Don't get me wrong, I feel for the college grads. My cousin and his girlfriend are in the same boat. They borrowed money to go to school, slummed it as college students, barely getting by, only to be confronted with that fact that no one is able to give them a job because they are over qualified.

Life sucks, get a helmet. Get over it. Been there done that - I graduated college in California with my little computer degree right after the dot com bubble burst. IT jobs disappeared over night. In fact, that's how I ended up working in this industry.
