America Needs LESS People to Vote?

I don't think so!

Caligari 11-07-2011 08:07 AM

I think they want to get it down to about 1% ;)

12clicks 11-07-2011 08:11 AM

if only the people who paid income tax were allowed to vote, the country would be in much better shape

Perhaps passing a basic IQ test would be a better determination. :1orglaugh

being able to contribute to your country is a pretty good IQ test.

Same thing they said about Greeks this past week... IN 5 years, voting will be a bad thing all around. Fuck educating people, just take away their right to vote...they're too stupid to miss it anyway. lol.

I never said to take away someone's right to vote, I just think we need to have certain minimum knowledge to vote and anyone can educate themselves enough to exercise their right.

Nope. If you've ever had a corporation you'd know they don't pay dick.

I had one for 6 years and paid the lowest taxes i ever paid in my life while i made the most money i ever made in my life.

That's how it works. If you don't know that you've either never had one or your accountant is a complete imbecile.

son, here in the real world, the bottom 50% pay no income taxes. The top 50% pay all of it.
explaining to me how once you had a corporation, you were able to write off your bedroom/office is kinda silly.
comparing your H&R Block accountant to mine is even sillier.

I'm just happy that everyone who hates my postings here at GFY, will continue to step in with their 2 cents every time just the same - on topic, or not (apparently).

Gotta love it!

Ask the fellow that started the thread. He is the one that suggested an IQ test for voters.

raymor 11-07-2011 09:42 AM

Certainly we wouldn't want a constitutional amendment that took away anyone's RIGHT to vote. Just because you have the right to do something doesn't mean you should do it, though. You have the right to cut off your own thumb.

In one poll, about half the people knew who the vice president was and half didn't. I would think it's ok if someone has no interest in politics, economics, etc. If you're one of those people who isn't interested enough to know whether the deficit is millions, billions, or trillions, do you HAVE to vote?
Is it wiser to know what you don't know? Is it ok to say "I know the economy is the big issue and I know jack about economics, so I'm going to sit this one out."

Should the message be "learn about issues and the proposed solutions from all candidates so you can vote wisely" rather than simply "vote, no matter if you have a clue about what you're voting for"?

spoken like a true bottom runger.

its hilarious how often the unaccomplished guess at what life at the top is like. Imagining that the magic accountant keeps us from paying taxes.:1orglaugh

Vendzilla 11-07-2011 09:47 AM

Why don't they make it so you have to show proof of citizenship to vote?

Rochard 11-07-2011 09:53 AM

I have two friends who both have "brain injuries", are both slightly mentally retarded, yet still function as perfectly normal adults. If you saw them shopping at Wal Mart you wouldn't notice a thing wrong, but if spend more than two minutes talking to either one of them you quickly notice they both should have adult supervision.

And these people are allowed to vote.

They are working on that as we speak in Wisconsin. That's one of the big motivators that the other side is using to attempt to recall Governor Walker.

I have been saying the same thing for a long time!

_Richard_ 11-07-2011 11:37 AM

i am up for politicians getting intelligence tests

would make a bit more sense, no?

spazlabz 11-07-2011 11:41 AM

the lack of participation in local and federal elections is way to low already. It may not be popular to say but everyone who has the right to vote should exercise it. I would prefer that the population take the time to learn the issues and form their own opinion on each one but even without that the strength of our 'democracy' should lay in the people exercising the right to control the government at all levels :2cents

LOL, if they did that in California, a lot of politicians would lose their jobs!!

As for Wisconsin, whats going on now,? Have they started balancing the budget or promises left unfilled?

if you want more unfair politics and you want the rich to get richer and the poor poorer yeah less people should vote. Cut off your nose to spite your face

What's really hilarious is that you are either a complete loser who never made enough to incorporate or you're such a complete idiot that when you achieved corporation status you never used a corp tax accountant.

Priceless:1orglaugh

Word to the wise: voting actually makes you look stupid.

SmutHammer 11-09-2011 01:11 PM

I agree with a few things in here, one people should have to pass a quick test to show they have some type of knowledge to back up their vote, and two they should have to meet a minimum requirement on income taxes paid.
