I would say exactly that. I have tons of gay friends and i have diescussed this several times. The worst thing to do is ignore it. You don't go to pickup joints or strip clubs with a straight kid and you won't be expected to do it with your gay son but let him know that you are ok with it.

Start by telling him you love him and that will never change. Then stand by him throughout life and prove those words to be true. It may very well be a powerful shock and a incredibly emotional period for you. However, remember that he has had this within him for likely a long time. He has had to come to terms with it enough to tell you. That is courage that needs to be acknowledged.

I hope that your son as the most amazing of lives and that he reaps the inner joy that comes with being true to himself from such a young age.
