French President Tells Obama Israeli PM Netanyahu is a 'liar'
 

French President Nicolas Sarkozy called Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu a "liar" in remarks to US President Barack Obama overheard by journalists.

"I can't stand him anymore, he's a liar," Mr Sarkozy said in French.

"You may be sick of him, but me, I have to deal with him every day," Mr Obama replied.

You could say the same for the Arab League and the Palestinians. The Palestinians are probably the most unfortunate people on earth, they are the most unwanted, yet the most politically used pawns in the middle east. In reality most of those muslim countries don't give a fuck about the Palestinians.


Israel is the glue that holds the middle east together in a sense. It gives muslim countries that otherwise would be at war with eachother a common enemy to focus on. At the same time as long as Israel exists the Saudis will need the United States as insurance to keep everything peaceful. So our relationship with Israel is much more mutual than some would like to think. Without Israel the Islamic world would either descend into chaos through infighting, or focus their full anger and resentment on the West.

If you think the situation is bad there now, just imagine what it would be like if Israel ceased to exist. Now more than ever, in light of the Arab Spring, Israel is a very valuable ally. The U.S. military benefits greatly from Israeli technological expertise and innovation. We support the Israeli missile defense program knowing that our own missile defense program will benefit from Israeli research. It is also a strategic staging point for our own operations in the middle east.


My feelings about Israel are ambivalent. On the one hand, The nature of our relationship with Israel is undeniably a key motivating factor for our Islamist enemies. On the other hand, so is our support of Arab tyranny over the past fifty years. It's really a lose-lose situation for the US until we're willing to wash our hands of Israel and rid our dependence on foreign oil, which isn't happening anytime soon.


Basically, we are past the point of no return in the middle east. If we abandon Israel now it will relieve very little, if any, resentment about all the percieved injustices inflicted on the muslim world by the US over the last fifty years, especially in Iran. Forget Ahmadinejad, the mullahs call the shots in Iran. The Iranian regime is a messianic mullahcracy that cannot be expected to behave rationally. It regards the U.S. as the "Great Satan"(Israel is only the "Little Satan"), it is certainly not in U.S. best interests for Iran to acquire nuclear weapons, IMO. That being said, I believe any attack on Iran's nuclear facilities should be viewed as an absolute final resort....but what the fuck do I know....
