if your going video with a canon dslr u need to at leaste get the 7D, the series below shoot nice pics, but suck on video...
I shoot with a 7D, but after about 20 minutes the camera needs a break. |
Anyone else?

T3i will overheat, max rec time of 29:59 per clip (reason being there is a tax on SLRs that shoot over 30mins) but i like the cam so fuckit

I've been shooting with the 7D and GH2 (and GH1) and for practical reasons the GH2 is my favorite. Better (manual) audio, no clip duration limit, no overheating, lighter. I use it with Panasonic lenses and Canon mount lenses using adapters. The top video on the site was shot with two GH2s:

Thanks for the input.

You can do stuff with a t3i just for starts, but ultimately a better Canon is your best bet.

At this point, I would purchase a GH2. But that's mainly because I've spent a few hours the past few days doing the research.
If you must go with the Canon, and you're stuck on the t3i...I would recommend spending the a couple hundred extra bucks on the 60D. It has a few extras and better specs that are worth the few more dollars you'll spend. And the resale value also holds up. There are a lot more t3is on the used market. From what I found this week, I could sell my 60D for what I paid for it in April, but if I had purchased the t3i at the time, I'd have lost upwards of $300. http://www.adorama.com/IPCDMCGH2KK.html - Panasonic GH2 for $799 (if you search you can find a code for another $100 off) |
We decided to go with the t3i... got a good price on it and that was a factor.
So far, so good... We'll report back soon. Thanks everyone. |
