Business Thread - Pay to Play...

I was reading peoples threads about free hosts, free blogs, blah, blah and decided to post something I've talked about before...

How much does it really cost to go from being a lurker to being somewhat successful? Well, that depends on two things: 1) What do you consider successful? 2) How much control do you really have over your life?

Tackling question one (1) is pretty easy. Just ask yourself what is successful? Back when I started being successful was making about $50 a day from online income. That was what I needed to make in order to work a lot less at the day job. I would be able to stop working overtime for someone else and start working it for me... and, more importantly, my family!

So how successful in online sales do you have to be in order to start taking your life back from your employer? If you live outside the US the chances are - it ain't much! Making two sales a day or a sale and a rebill is pretty fucking easy...

Next we look at question two (2). What did I mean by how much control do you have? I meant a lot of things... Can you add online sales to your current work schedule? Is the time available? Will your current job let you have more time? Will your wife/kids/husband/whatever? Will you let you have more time?

So you've found the time... But you are living paycheck to paycheck. Now what? Free hosting? Free blogs? Free other shit? What should you do to get online? I'll tell you what you need to do... Quit being a shit-fuck! That is what you need to do... As Chopper Reid would say, "Harden the fuck up!"

What does that mean? It is part of number two... You have the time to do the work and the chances are you also have the money. But you are going to have to be diligent. First, stop drinking and stop using drugs. If you smoke, stop. These three habits are costing you the start up cash you could be using to completely change your life!!!

When I got started I stopped going out on the weekends with friends... Which means no more bar hopping... No more movies... No more doing shit. That allowed me to afford the $14 in hosting on a Shared Server. It sort of sucked being on a shared server because it wasn't anywhere near as fast at loading my web sites as a dedicated would be, but that is later...

Not smoking saved me about $12 a week. Not drinking saved me about $40 a week. Not smoking dope saved me about $10 a week. I am a lightweight. Suddenly I had money for domains. I bought 10 of them and installed some free TGP software and trading scripts. In a short amount of time I got them to about 150,000 uniques a day. It sounded like a lot, but I quickly found that it wasn't shit and my host was going apeshit on how much of my "unlimited" bandwidth I was using...

But now I was making cash. Only about $30 a day average... but it was coming in. Now I could afford a dedicated box. Along the way I learned to code HTML, PHP, MYSQL, etc... I installed everything myself and Googled my problems... I saved a lot of cash that way and began to understand shit better. I figured a lot of shit out by doing shit outside of the box...

Some out of the box thinking: I needed to created a content management system. I needed it now and I didn't want to pay someone a lot of money for one... It needed to do some very simple things. My CMS had to hold FHG links, descriptions that I could write and create thumbs... So I installed the free version of Smart Thumbs... It creates the DB and I enter in all of the FHG links, crop the thumbs and describe the gallery on the thumb cropping page. I was able to use a system I was already familiar with and it gave me a DB I could pull from. Simple and free!

So start learning how things work so you can get powerful, free solutions to your problems.

Now... It is time for you to take control of your life. Stop looking for cheap/free solutions for everything when there are plenty of low cost solutions that would allow you to take things seriously... and more importantly allow others to take you seriously when you have real domains to trade links from and not free subdomains.

Stop drinking. Stop smoking. Stop doing drugs. Tell the significant person(s) in your life that you are done being a shit-head and need time to work. Then work. Don't play games. Don't look at porn. Work. It only takes a month or two to start making the amount you think is "enough" for you to get to the next level.

Do buy the best hosting you can afford. Do buy .com domains. Do create your own brand and tackle some keywords. Do pay for scripts when you see others making money with them. Real money... not bullshit clickbank pages telling you they are making money.

Get Google Chrome browser.
Get SEO Status - https://chrome.google.com/webstore/d...pnfgfgbdfahapa
Get Lastpass - Google for it.

Use SEO Status... if the site doesn't have a low Alexa ranking... chances are it doesn't make money... below 500,000 means it is making your kind of money... below 100,000 means it is making the money you would want to stop working the day job... below 10,000 means you are better than almost all other GFY'ers...

So don't trust people who try to sell you some script and the sites that use it are over 500,000 on Alexa.... That script won't pay for itself for a long time.

Anyway... Have fun and remember there is no money in porn!

its more than the money. these things take away the competence you need to work your brain and ass off. i can afford to drink, smoke, do drugs all day long if i want. i dont do any of them anymore because it takes away my ability to work 100 hours a week. and working 100 hours a week for myself is a hell of a lot better than 40 hours a week in a cubicle.

if u want to succeed in porn today, you need your brain at top performance levels.

nice article man. hope it helps some nubes :thumbsup

So fucking true dat. :thumbsup :thumbsup

If you are making any real money, you take your business serious and invest in it.

The Internet can have an extremely low entrance barrier -- for less than $100 a month you can have a high speed Internet connection, a few domains and a host server -- you are now in business for yourself.

You can become an affiliate of many adult and mainstream products and/or services. Established people will share the profits with you.

In general the Internet is a growing market that you can still profit in but as the thread name states -- you got to pay to play but really you can start out for less than buying a food vendor's cart with a much brighter future.

I see that we've now got to the stage where a Business Thread in the "Simply Business" section has to be labelled as a "Business Thread" :upsidedow

Nice post but I have a question.

Why would you do anything to help, encourage or inform the newbies? What's in it for you?

Doing something mainstream (brick and mortar) is so much easier than most people think. You simply put one foot in front of the other and decided to trek down a path not worrying about where it took you. Anything was better than where you were at. Interestingly it seems most of us hit a "rock bottom" when we ventured on our own individual paths. That bottom was the realization that if we continued on with an employer "this" was as good as life was going to get, and we envisioned much more for ourselves!

Glad to see you entered the shooting aspects of adult and photography in general on a budget. Then grew it into something that can comfortably pay the bills!
